Although there is a diversity of opinion about how to view the relationship between humans and wildlife, recent political pressures from the current administration make it mandatory that these diverse groups coalesce to use their combined leverage to halt the planned incursions into the remaining habitats of wildlife. It is also important to begin to see nature as a complex and interrelated whole, and to respect the integrity of that whole, rather than simply select individual species for affection and protection.

Utilization And Land Cover Examined In Two Blue Earth County Streams, Mark Gamm, Robert James Childs

Examining soil mapping units of the United States Agriculture department's Soil Conservation Service for comparison with land usage In the Blue Earth River valley, this study found that seven of 56 units in the valley accounted for 76.5 percent of the study terrain. Agricultural use or non-use of the land units matched established . designations.

The Le Sueur River flows for about 40 miles within Blue Earth county of south ·central Minnesota. Land cover in the valley, as determined by stereoscopic examination of aerial photographs, shows forest on 65 percent, agriculture on 22 percent, and other cover on 13 percent …

The main interest of this study is the urban ethnic mosaic within the context of the core-periphery concept: its historical and spatial expressions of ethnic groups in Toronto. The study will focus on the socioeconomic contrasts—income, education, and occupation—between the major ethnic group and the subgroups. Two dimensions, those of ethnic mobility and socioeconomic characteristics, have been set up to inquire into geographic changes in ethnic groups over time and into the degree of socioeconomic polarity between the ethnic groups at one time. An attempt to discover and analyze the emerging trends of urban growth represents a problem of immediate concern for geographers. However, much of this research has been concerned primarily with large urban areas. This thesis is an attempt to learn more about the dynamics of small town population change and thus, concerns itself with determining trends of small town population growth.

Specifically, this thesis investigates the differential growth patterns for selected small towns in Southwestern Ontario for the 1961–1971, and 1971–1976 periods to ascertain precisely some of the factors associated with population growth and decline, and for presenting findings that …

Since world war two, tourism has evolved into a major industry within the Caribbean region. This development has not occurred evenly in space, and significant discrepancies in intensity exist among and within the islands. The evolution of the tourism industry on the islands of Tobago may be divided into a number of stages, including pre-touristic, early development and developmental. These constructs, based on tourist arrival and accommodation data, resemble the earlier phases of the product diffusion ‘S’-curve. Previous research has indicated that shopping center images consist of various components and that different images are held by consumers, retailers, and mall management. The study examines the consumers’, retailers’s, and mall managements’ images of two shopping centers in the City of Waterloo. One center is Conestoga Mall; the other is Westmount Place. Responses were obtained from shoppers, retailers, and management by use of questionnaires and interviews. The data was analyzed using Biomedical Programs (BMD), a frequency count, factor analytic work, and step-wise multiple regression. River channel patterns are recognised as important features associated with the dynamic system of stream flow. This study, examines different channel patterns and the associated geometric variables of a section of the Grand Channel. It also suggests different inter-relationships of the geometric variables for different channel patterns. Comparisons are made between the channel characteristics and other experimental, theoretical and field examples discussed in this literature review.

Based upon the need for the generation of simple models which could be utilized for development planning in the Third World, arguments have been advanced for the use of periodic market components as convenient framework, since among other things, they exhibit varying degrees of central importance through which myriads of people, goods, services and information flow. This thesis identifies and examines how people look for farms. In it the actual search rather than the decision to seek additional or alternative locations is the focus. It is estimated that the sample of farmers interviewed and surveyed consists of 50 per cent of those who had undergone the process of relocation/expansion in the past two years in the Niagara region of Ontario. Hydrographic Regions Of Northern Ontario, Robert J. Thorpe

This paper deals with methods of classification of the drainage basins of Northern Ontario, with the identification of hydrologic regions. Discriminant analysis of the data proved to be the most valid of the options tested, although visual interpretation and grouping analysis both showed themselves to be useful. In all, four hydrologic regions were identified, and these show a strong relationship with the physical characteristics of the area. Of particular importance was the presence of glacial lacustrine clays in the Clay Belt area.

Factors affecting land prices in the open countryside of Wellington County from 1961–71 are investigated in this study. Land use was the major determinant of price and the significance of location, size and time varied according to land use. Soil had no effect on land prices. These factors were poor predictors of price which suggested that formation of land prices was a complicated process. The fragmentation of rural land into residential parcels from 1966–1969, combined with favourable economic conditions caused dramatic price increases for residential land and smaller increases in farm land and farm prices. Although the truck industry has usually been included in studies on the motor vehicle industry it has enough special features to study it separately. The industry initially concentrated in the Northeastern region of the United States. It was prevented from expanding by the limitations of the truck type of the time. As the truck type improved the industry was freed from locating only in the major cities. With the automobile and the gasoline engine industry in the Midwest, the truck industry soon shifted there. With greater acceptance of the truck and ease of entry into the industry, truck companies dispersed …

Highland Creek can be defined as a flashy stream on the basis of the basin and channel hydrology and hydraulics. The extremes between the low and high-flow stage are dependent on the hydro-geomorphological features of the urban environment. The peculiarities of the urban landscape, serve to differentiate Highland Creek from naturally flashy channels.

The sedimentary structures were grouped into coarse and fine facies. The deposition of material apparently occurs under progressively decreasing energy levels, during falling flow stage.

The spruce budworm Choristoneura fumiferana Clem. is the foremost forest pest in Canada. The species is endemic to eastern North America. Since the turn of the century the insect has become a major problem in the “Great Lakes St. Lawrence Forest Region” of Ontario, an area where prior to recent times the insect did not occur in damaging numbers.

Analysis of the life cycle of the insect reveals that the only limiting factor capable of controlling outbreaks is a lack of food. The required tree species is balsam fir Abies balsama (L.) Mill. The forests of Ontario have been altered …
