Commoner's book provides an opportunity to review the problems of pollution and their causes in the social, political, and economic fabric of our society. This review also provides an opportunity to compare and contrast natural and social laws. From this examination of the problem of pollution and the interface between natural and social law emerge certain ideological concerns confronting Americans as a people.

For centuries there has been awareness of pollution but it has received dramatic publicity in recent years.

In Western Australia, provisions for its control are written into the Health Act and many other Acts besides the Environmental Protection Act of 1971.

A number of factors have acted worldwide and locally to increase awareness and concern about pollution, and to justify careful examination of the problems it causes.

To further implement the course curriculum for the Earth Science major and to constructively channel the current interest and concern with the environmental problems, the Department of Physical Science at the University of Arkansas at Monticello introduced a course entitled Environmental Studies this past spring. As it was necessary to offer both a general education Elementary Physics course in addition to the new course, it was decided to combine the two courses and use an approach similar to that of Edwin Marston, Queens College, Flushing, New York. The Designer's News was a student-run weekly newspaper published in the late 1960s. The issue of May 19-25, 1969 featured an article about the RISD Landscape Architecture department's study to save Block Island, RI. There also was an interview with John Torres about summer programs at RISD and at a school in Vermont, and an article about a RISD photo student who taught local pre-teens about photography. Also included was an article about the Rhode Island Art Festival and some RISD students who were volunteering their time to help.

In 1965 several anthropologists drew up plans for a one-year pilot study of the archeology and ethnohistory of the Wichita Indian tribes. After financial support had been generously provided by the National Science Foundation, the proposed research was carried out. This is a report on the results of that study.

Two species of cotton rats, Sigmodon minimus Mearns (least cotton rat) and S. hispidus Baird (hispid cotton rat), occur in the Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico. The northernmost published record-station for S. hispidus is near Scorro, Scorro County ( Bailey, 1931: 167), and that S. minimus is near Isleta, Bernalillo County (Ivey, 1947: 498 and map). When recent field work by the author revealed the presence of both species in the Rio Grande Valley north of these published record-stations the problem arose whether the range extensions were the result of a recent northward extension of the range of the …
