The treatment of nature by the English Romantic poets of the nineteenth century is commonly thought to be confined to the poetry of Wordsworth. Although the bulk of Wordsworth's poetry is concerned with nature, a study of the poetry of the period reveals that the other great Romanticists were also interested in nature. This thesis is written to show how great a factor the treatment of nature is in the poetry of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

In his "Mounring Becomes Electra", Eugene O'Neill has taken a great and renowed classical theme and has given it a modern interpretation in the light of his interest in Freudian psychology. In this thesis I have tried to show first the chief details in connection with the Orestea theme as it is given to us by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. I have then analyzed the characters in the Greek dramas since Eugene O'Neill's primary interest in his character.

Two thousand high school students in Wisconsin were tested recently in reading; one-third of them tested as sixth grade or below in reading ability.¹ One of the most difficult problems confronting the schools of America today is "How shall we make good readers of our students?" La Fontaine's and Aesop's Fables are well known for the moral inculcated in each. They have always in mind one purpose ... to teach the reader. La Fontaine used many of the Fables of Aesop as a background for his own Fables. Those of Aesop possessed no graces of style, and so La Fontaine added graces of style to those he wrote.
