Orts 66, 2004, The George Macdonald Society

Orts: The George MacDonald Society Newsletter

About thirty members from both Societies attended an enjoyable and rewarding one day conference on Saturday 30th October at which two speakers from each Society gave papers on the treatment of the treatment of the character of Lilith in Williams's Descent into Hell and MacDonald's Lilith and other works. Brian Horn gave a concise, but detailed paper on the Williams novel, concentrating particularly on the character of Lawrence Wentworth who, through his own self-love and disregard for others, does literally 'descend into hell'. Brian read his concise, but detailed and erudite, paper in thirty five minutes, allowing plenty of time …

A Lesson In The Garden Of Good And Evil, Lisa Parker

The Corinthian

Flannery O'Connor's second novel, The Violent Bear It Away, revolves around a young boy named Tarwater. Throughout the novel, Tarwater struggles to choose between the old domineering ways of his backwoods, ignorant, great-uncle Mason Tarwater, and the more modern ideology of his city dwelling, well educated, uncle George Rayber.

Taran: An Individuated Hero For The Collective Unconscious, Edward Tucker Raetz

Theses Digitization Project

This study analyzes Lloyd Alexander's The Prydain Chronicles through a Jungian lens. Previous scholarship on Alexander's works has briefly considered archetypal criticism, but not extensively. Bruno Bettelheim's thoughts are used intermittently throughout the thesis. This study concentrates on Taran's individuation process, the discovery of true selfhood, and his consequent development of a whole psyche.

Review Of Rereading George Eliot: Changing Responses To Her Experiments In Life, Bernard J. Paris Jan 2004

The George Eliot Review Online, ISSN: 2831-5375

The Utah English Journal

"It didn't feel like anything special," Perry said. A fine winter night outside, meaning the frost had sharpened the stars. It was colder in Urbana than it had been in Madison when Sis had left that morning. "But all of a sudden I was flat on the library floor. Face hurt like hell."

"Yeah, well, no surprise, with that face," Sis said.

"Shut up."

"So are seizures hereditary?" Sis asked.

"Nah, it's stress. Studying your ass off. As if you would know."
