Radiation Losses In Metallurgical Furnaces, Frank Richard Loveridge
Radiation Losses In Metallurgical Furnaces, Frank Richard Loveridge
Bachelors Theses
"The conduction and radiation of heat are of great importance in metallurgy. Metallurgical operations require, in the great majority of cases, temperatures above those of normal atmospheric conditions. Loss of heat is loss of dollars. Furnaces of all kinds allow to pass their walls a greater or less amount of heat, i.e. heat is lost by conduction and by radiation. This heat is often spoken of as radiation loss. It is due to the heat being conducted from the inside to the outside of the furnace. The materials of construction, and manner of building the furnace has much to do …
A Comparison Of The Solvents Used In The Hydrometallurgy Of Silver, Simon Jochamowitz, Enrique Cavazos
A Comparison Of The Solvents Used In The Hydrometallurgy Of Silver, Simon Jochamowitz, Enrique Cavazos
Bachelors Theses
"Potassium cyanide solutions, hyposulphite of soda solutions, and a mixture called the Russell solution, are the solvents most used to win silver from its ores. We are not the first to attempt comparisons of the solvent powers of the different solutions named. It is difficult, at least we have found it difficult, to find tabulated, a comparison of the various solvents from the points of view of speed of action, of consumption of reagents, of suitability of one or another to a given type of ore"--page 1.
The Volatilization And Absorption Of Silver Chloride, Edgar Joseph Wolf, Victoriano Elicano
The Volatilization And Absorption Of Silver Chloride, Edgar Joseph Wolf, Victoriano Elicano
Bachelors Theses
"The purpose of this thesis was to study the relation of the loss of silver chloride to such variables as the temperature, as the type of gangue, as the method of carrying on the roast; to determine what becomes of the silver lost and to attempt to recover it. In our work we consider something seemingly overlooked by many, if not all of the workers; namely, that there is a great loss of silver chloride due to absorption, as well as to volatilization. Volatilization has been the hobby of most of the experimeters. We hope to show as a part …
A Study Of The Losses Of Gold During Cupellation In The Presence Of Tellurium, George Albert Easley, Carl Winthrop Keniston
A Study Of The Losses Of Gold During Cupellation In The Presence Of Tellurium, George Albert Easley, Carl Winthrop Keniston
Bachelors Theses
"It is generally accepted that the presence, in the lead button, of a small amount of tellurium causes, during cupellation, a loss of gold. Little, however, is known as to the loss, when tellurium is present, due to variation in the temperature of cupellation...Our work was carried on with the intention of determining the loss of gold, due to temperature in the presence of known amount of tellurium and to compare this loss with that caused by the temperature alone. Has temperature the same, a greater, or a less effect on the loss of gold during cupellation when tellurium is …

Minerals And Their Environment Of Formation, Deforrest Don
Minerals And Their Environment Of Formation, Deforrest Don
Bachelors Theses
"The history of mineralogy began with the development of mining and the use of certain minerals as useful products, such as lime, pigments and precious stones. In order to know how to distinguish these minerals when found and where they were likely to found, it was necessary to study the nature, properties and the modes of occurrence. In order to determine all these properties, it was necessary to classify and compare them with the purpose of ascertaining how they resemble each other, and how they differ"--page 1.

Square Set System Of Timbering As Employed By The Shannon Copper Co., Ray Eugene Hoffman
Professional Degree Theses
"The properties of The Shannon Copper Co., consisting of mine and smelter, are located in the Southeastern part of Arizona in what is known as the Clifton-Morenci District. The smelter is located at Clifton and the mine at Metcalf, eight miles distant on an iron capped mountain known as Serro Preito.
From a geological standpoint the ore deposits of the Clifton-Morenci District are a freak. There are no fissure veins of any consequence in the district; all the large deposits are found in bodies, the ore usually occurring in a soft porphyry.
Underlying the iron capping on the Shannon property …

Effect Of Arsenic On Assay For Gold And Silver, Rosco Conkling Ham, Frederick Arnold Moore
Bachelors Theses
"In presenting the within thesis, it is not claimed by the authors that the experiments have been, by any means, exhaustive of the subject. Neither is any claim made to original research work other than a series of simple experiments with a view to determining, if possible, some of the more important effects of Arsenic upon a fire assay for gold and silver as met with in the ordinary assay laboratory. To make a work complete and exhaustive on such a subject will require much more time and more complete apparatus than was available in the experiments covered by this …

Pot Roasting Of Lead Ores, Ralph Robert Benedict, Edward Phillip Barrett, Frank William Harper
Bachelors Theses
"In this thesis for a starting point, we attempted a roast of straight galena with no diluent. As anticipated the results were nil. We next attempted the roast with a mixture of galena and silica, and obtained fair results. Our next experiment was to use limestone with the galena. Because of the large percentage of limestone present the results were not satisfactory. Next pyrites and limestone were used with the galena, and excellent results were obtained. We made another run, using pyrites and limestone, but increasing the per-centage of galena by 25%. This run was also very successful. From these …

The Composition And Analysis Of Zinc-Lead Pigment, Evans Walker Buskett
The Composition And Analysis Of Zinc-Lead Pigment, Evans Walker Buskett
Professional Degree Theses
"Zinc is present as oxide and sulphate. There are also probably zinc and lead sulphites. It has been suggested that there may be carbonates in this pigment, but this is not probable as the high temperature of the furnace, the complete combustion of the fuel to CO2 and the large excess of SO2 gas in the bagroom would tend to prevent their formation. There is also a chemical combination between the zinc oxide and the lead oxide which is probably a zinc plumbate. Some light can be thrown on the subject by the following experiments:"--page 1.
