Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The Nebraska Tractor Law, which became effective July 15, 1919, was enacted to encourage the manufacture and sale of improved types of tractors and to contribute to a more successful use of the tractor for farming. It was thought that the best method of accomplishing these objects would be to require a tractor of each model sold in the State to be tested at the State University and to have the results of these tests made public. These tests will give reliable information on the power, capacity and fuel consumption of each tractor and also some information on endurance. The …

The Roasting Of Zinc Ores In The Manufacture Of Sulphuric Acid By The Contact Process, Clarence Eugene Peterson
The Roasting Of Zinc Ores In The Manufacture Of Sulphuric Acid By The Contact Process, Clarence Eugene Peterson
Professional Degree Theses
"The unprecedented demand for sulphuric acid of the higher strengths (98% and higher) in the manufacture of explosives, has stimulated the zinc smelters to increased efforts in the recovery of their Roaster gases in the form of Sulphuric Acid. The Lead-chamber process is unsuitable, however, in making "strong" acid and the smelters naturally turned to the contact mass or catalytic processes. In the roasting of zinc ores practically all of the sulphur is removed as sulphur dioxide, the disagreeable odor and unmistakable injury to surrounding localities, of which, first led to the adoption of sulphuric acid plants by most zinc …
On The Microscopic Determination Of Cadmium In Metallic Zinc, James Presley Gill
On The Microscopic Determination Of Cadmium In Metallic Zinc, James Presley Gill
Professional Degree Theses
"A quick and accurate determination of Cadmium in Metallic Zinc by all ordinary chemical methods now in use, so far as the writer has been able to ascertain is at best only approximate. However, longer methods and very delicate ones for determining Cadmium are in use that are very accurate, but these methods are so long and so delicate that very few commercial laboratories care to use them. Now, it has been known for some time that Zinc and Cadmium do not form an alloy which when in the solid exist either as a solution or a compound. They do …
Rules For Tractor Demonstrations, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab
Rules For Tractor Demonstrations, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab
Nebraska Tractor Tests
The object of these rules, instructions and data is to make all tractor demonstrations of this kind comparable and of the greatest educational value. Anyone who has conducted tractor demonstrations in the past has realized the necessity of some standard rules to follow and those who afterwards have referred to the results, deplore the lack of uniformity in the demonstrations and the data. For those who have not had this experience will find that it is a great help to have satisfactory rules to follow.
The value of these demonstrations depends largely upon the accuracy of the data reported on …
Graphics And Its Application To The Progress And Cost Analyses Of A House Building Construction Company, Frank Lewis Leonard Wilson
Graphics And Its Application To The Progress And Cost Analyses Of A House Building Construction Company, Frank Lewis Leonard Wilson
Masters Theses
"In the graphical analyses of Stresses in Framed Structures, we study, by means of diagrams, the stability or equilibrium of structures and the relation between the external forces and the stresses created in the members of the frame. The principle involved is that we may represent any force both as to direction and intensity by a straight line, by considering the direction of the line to be identical with that of the force and adjusting its length according to any arbitrary unit adopted for the forces under consideration. By this means we can solve the stresses in framed structures with …

Determination Of Critical Point Of Concentrating Tables On Arizona Copper Ore, J. C. Finagin Jr., W. C. Hogoboom
Determination Of Critical Point Of Concentrating Tables On Arizona Copper Ore, J. C. Finagin Jr., W. C. Hogoboom
Professional Degree Theses
"In the concentration of an ore by means of concentrating tables, there is a critical point in sizing beyond which the valuable minerals can not be recovered. Theoretically, the lighter gangue is washed over the side of' the table and the heavier mineral, regardless of size, is recoverable at the end, these concentrates being graded from coarse to fine sizes up the slope of the table. In practice, however, the finer sizes of concentrates are found mixed with the middlings and tailings, as indicated by the arrows on the diagram of the concentrating table shown below. The problem is to …

Measuring Silage And Capacity Of Silos, L. W. Chase
Measuring Silage And Capacity Of Silos, L. W. Chase
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The condition of the corn at filling time, the rate of filling, and the length of time settling has taken place before measuring the depth of the silage, all tend to cause variations in the weight per cubic foot of the silage and in the tonnage that can be placed in a silo. The greatest variation comes when very green corn or very ripe corn is used, and because of this it is possible that a cubic foot of green silage, which may weigh fifty pounds, holds no more dry matter than a cubic foot of overripe silage which weighs …

The Design And Construction Of A Power Transformer, James M. Johann, George P. Nugent
The Design And Construction Of A Power Transformer, James M. Johann, George P. Nugent
Bachelors’ Theses
Usually one coil of the transformer has many more turns of wire than the other, when the coil of few turns is the primary, the transformer takes a large current at a low potential and delivers a smaller current at high potential. This is called a step up transformer. When the coil of many turns is the primary the transformer takes small current at high potential and delivers greater current at lower potential. This type is called a step down transformer.

Professional Degree Theses
"The more or less impure iron bearing mineral occurs mixed with a very tenacious clay, in which are also found chert, cretaceous quartz pebbles, pockets of sand, masses of pebbles and sand cemented by hydrous iron oxide, (which in some cases partly replaces the silica) and several varieties of fossils, such as crinoids etc. The impurities mentioned are often an integral part of the ore particles, and are present in varying quantities thruout [sic] the deposit. But, besides the foreign matter which the eye can discern, the apparently pure mineral contains a varying percentage of silica and alumina, (as well …
Some Typical Bridges For Logging Railroad Construction, Frederick Hauenstein
Some Typical Bridges For Logging Railroad Construction, Frederick Hauenstein
Professional Degree Theses
"In some of the pine regions of the Ozark Mountains, a considerable portion of the country is rolling and rough, comprising a succession of hills and hollows. The most efficient method of logging such a tract is obtained by locating the logging road so as to secure a down grade haul for the logs, with consequent up grade return for the empty cars. This necessitates locating the main line of the railroad along the principal creek, and then laying spurs up the different tributary creeks as they are met. Such a procedure requires much crossing and re-crossing of creeks and …
Concentration Of A Joplin Slime By Flotation, Earl Joseph Weimer, Walter Harry Freudenberg
Concentration Of A Joplin Slime By Flotation, Earl Joseph Weimer, Walter Harry Freudenberg
Bachelors Theses
"Concentration of the Joplin slimes by means of flotation is a subject receiving considerable attention at the present time, due to high price of zinc. These slimes are the accumulation of the finer particles of the ore during the milling process, and their zinc content is well worth considering. The practice in the past has been to sluice these slimes into the tailing pond, as no economical method of saving the zinc had been employed. The object of our experiment was to economically extract from these slimes by flotation, a product of sufficient zinc content to be of commercial value"--Introduction, …
Practical Details Of Mine Surveying In Certain Mines Of Northern Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez
Practical Details Of Mine Surveying In Certain Mines Of Northern Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez
Bachelors Theses
"The name of this thesis is suggestive of its character. The writer has endeavored to resent in a general way some of the most important details of mine surveying as he has found them in actual practice. Simple Methods And Tables For Determining True Meridian, Howard Jones Teas
Simple Methods And Tables For Determining True Meridian, Howard Jones Teas
Bachelors Theses
"The ordinary methods of determining the true meridian by observation on either Polaris or the sun are so tedious to calculate that most surveyors and students dread making them. Observation on Polaris at either elongation or clumination sic require less calculation and are much simpler, but this simplicity is offset by the fact that they must be taken at an exact instant. If a cloud crosses the sky at the time, the surveyor has to wait until the next night. then again the observer must know the date, exact longitude and latitude and correct time for making the observation, and …
Selective Concentration Of A Complex Ore By Flotation, Paul Frederick Pape, Ralph Dale
Selective Concentration Of A Complex Ore By Flotation, Paul Frederick Pape, Ralph Dale
Bachelors Theses
"The problem of the Mining Engineer and Metallurgical Engineer who wishes to treat the slimes and fine sands of a complex ore is the recovery and separation of minerals so as to render a subsequent treatment of any mineral profitable. The minerals must be separated into groups which can be treated by different processes, because a combination of numerous minerals is extremely undesirable at the smelting plant. In a lead ore the presence of zinc often depletes its value to such an extent that it is unprofitable to treat it; likewise with other minerals and ores. Many systems of selective …
Concentration Of Ores By Flotation, John Gay Reilly, Frank Stillmann Elfred
Concentration Of Ores By Flotation, John Gay Reilly, Frank Stillmann Elfred
Bachelors Theses
"Flotation is a new step in the separation of valuable minerals from gangue. This process has only been in commercial use for about six years. There has been several theories advances as to how the ore is concentrated, and the theory that is now usually accepted is that the oil covers or wets the sulphide mineral particle and does not the gangue; and this mineral particle, by means of induced aid is concentrated on the surface. The authors of this thesis have not attempted to explain the reason or reasons why minerals will float; but have accepted the theories advanced …
