Interactions Of Lignin Dimers With Engineered Surfaces And Model Cell Membranes For Design Of Lignin-Based Materials, Mahsa Moradipour

Theses and Dissertations--Chemical and Materials Engineering

Capitalizing on byproducts of industrial and agricultural economies is among the utmost goals of sustainability. Of particular interest for commercial upgrading is lignin, a phenolic biopolymer found in the cell walls of plants which is the second most abundant biopolymer on Earth after cellulose. Due to its heterogeneous structure, deconstructing lignin to selected small molecules for use as chemicals or advanced materials has been elusive. This work capitalizes on a “bottom up” approach to the synthesis of lignin oligomers of known bond chemistry to better understand their interfacial interactions.

The potential pharmacological mechanism of lignin deconstruction components and their toxicological …

An Admm-Based Incentive Approach For Cooperative Data Analysis In Edgecomputing, Weiwei Fang, Xue Wang, Qingli Wang, Yi Ding

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Edge computing is a new paradigm that provides data processing capabilities at the network edge. In view of the uneven data distribution and the constrained onboard resource, an edge device often needs to call for a number of neighboring devices as followers to cooperate on data analysis tasks. However, these followers may be rational and selfish, having their private optimization objectives such as energy efficiency. Therefore, the leader device needs to incentivize the followers to achieve a certain global objective, e.g., maximizing task accomplishment, rather than their own objectives. In this paper, we model the aforementioned challenges in edge computing …

A Two-Stage Hair Region Localization Method For Guided Laser Hair Removal, Murat Avşar, İmam Şami̇l Yeti̇k

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Removal of hair using laser is a widely used method, where our goal is to permanently remove hair by using laser to cause heat in order to thermally damage the hair follicle. However, currently available laser hair removal systems affect the outer skin layers besides hair follicles. This is a disadvantage of classical methods with major health risks. We propose a method to overcome these health risks by guiding the laser beam only to automatically localized hair regions. This study aims to develop an automated feature-based hair region localization method as an integral part of the proposed hair removal system …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Effect Of Cob Loading Amount In Gc3n4 Nanosheet In Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation, Chayathorn Prapaitrakool

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Noble metals, such as Pt, Ru, and Ir, have been widely used as expensive catalyst promoters to enhance the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In contrast, other cheaper catalyst promoters that can also promote high HER performance have been developed, such as metal phosphides, and metal borides. Recently, nickel boride (NiB) loaded on graphitic carbon nitride nanosheet (gCNS) has exhibited promising HER performance under visible light. Thus, this research attempted to investigate HER performance of cobalt boride (CoB) as a cocatalyst on gCNS and compare to the HER performance of NiB. The amount of CoB loading was varied from 1-11 …

Controllable Formation Of Microparticles Via Microfluidic Technique, Narin Paiboon

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Droplet microfluidics is an interesting tool in the encapsulation process due to its potentiality for microparticles and microcapsules fabrication with uniform size and narrow size distribution. The formation of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion droplets in a microfluidic flow-focusing device for microparticles production were investigated under a wide selection of operating parameters together with liquid materials. Experimental results of 12 data sets from over 100 experiments in two different-sized channels were assessed. The stable narrowing jet and tip streaming regime noticeably created monodisperse droplet formation with high throughput. The droplet size to junction size has been found to correlate with the three …
