Acquiring geophysical information requires selection of the geophysical method based upon the defining physical property and a survey design with adequate resolution but cost effective based upon the size of the area to be surveyed. The objective of this study is to use artificial neural nets (ANNs) to design an optimal survey. The developed approach is tested for the case of soil pipe surveying using electromagnetics. Soil pipes are tortuous voids located within 1.5 m depth of the ground surface. They trend perpendicular to the slope and have cross-sectional dimensions on the order of millimeters to tens of centimeters. The …

Breaking reciprocity in linear acoustic systems and designing a novel actuator for the nonreciprocal valveless pumps are studied in this dissertation. The first part was started by deriving the acoustic governing equations in a moving wave propagation medium. It was shown thatthe Coriolis acceleration term appears ina cross-product term with the wave vector. It means the main reason for breaking reciprocity in the circular fluid flow is the Coriolis acceleration term. Finally, the governing equations were solved numerically by COMSOL Multiphysics software. Disrupted Functional and Structural Connectivity Measures Have Been Used to Distinguish Schizophrenia Patients from Healthy Controls. Classification Methods based on Functional Connectivity Derived from EEG Signals Are Limited by the Volume Conduction Problem. Recorded Time Series at Scalp Electrodes Capture a Mixture of Common Sources Signals, Resulting in Spurious Connections. When Features in a High Dimension Dataset Are Organized Hierarchically, There is an Inherent Opportunity to Reduce Dimensionality. Since More Specific Concepts Are Subsumed by More General Concepts, Subsumption Can Be Applied Successively to Reduce Dimensionality. We Tested Whether Sub-Sumption Could Reduce the Dimensionality of a Disease Dataset Without Impairing Classification Accuracy. We Started with a Dataset that Had 168 Neurological Patients, 14 Diagnoses, and 293 Unique Features. We Applied Subsumption Repeatedly to Create Eight Successively Smaller Datasets, Ranging from 293 Dimensions in the Largest Dataset to 11 Dimensions in the Smallest Dataset. Introduction: Hydrogels are hydrophilic polymers which are cross-linked to form three-dimensional structures, which can absorb, swell and retain huge amounts of water or aqueous fluids. Objective: This paper reports the preparation and characterization of Poly (2-Acrylamido-2-Methylpropane Sulphonic Acid) (PAMPS) hydrogel with different crosslinking intensities. Methodology: 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS) monomer was purchased from Alfa Aesar Company as reagent grade. It was used as received (>98% purity) without any further purification. A pilot investigation that compared ozone oxidation with an integrated ozone and granular activated carbon (GAC) process for the control of regulated disinfection by-products at the University of Central Florida's water plant located at the Orlando campus has been completed. Treatment effectiveness was measured by monitoring the parameters pH, temperature, non-purgeable dissolved organic carbon (DOC), ultraviolet absorbance at a wavelength of 254 nm (UV254), specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA), excitation emission matrices (EEMs) and the associated formation of the DBP chemical groups total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs). In this study, the modification of the Deb feasibility method is considered to solve the constrained optimization problems. In the developed modified Deb feasibility constraint method, the third rule in its procedure was revised in order to increase the performance of the Deb feasibility constraint handling method. The innovation in the method is based on generating a new individual by using both possible solutions that violate the constraints in the method used for solving the problem. Multimodal medical image fusion approaches have been commonly used to diagnose diseases and involve merging multiple images of different modes to achieve superior image quality and to reduce uncertainty and redundancy in order to increase the clinical applicability. In this paper, we proposed a new medical image fusion algorithm based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) to obtain a weight map for multiscale transform (curvelet/ non-subsampled shearlet transform) domains that enhance the textual and edge property.
