Interim Performance Report Experimental Use Of Thermoplastic Pavement-Striping Materials, John W. Scott Sep 1966

Interim Performance Report Experimental Use Of Thermoplastic Pavement-Striping Materials, John W. Scott

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The purposes and objectives of this study are: 1) to evaluate the application and performance characteristics of hot-melt plastic, pavement-striping materials which are presently prominent and known commercially as "Catatherm" and "Perma-Line"; 2) to compare the performance of these materials with the performance of painted stripes applied and renewed according to the current practices of the Kentucky Department of Highways; and 3) to evaluate the economics of these striping materials in terms of cost per mile per day of useful life. The project is described more fully in the "Proposal ... " (approved by Division Engineer, September 7, 1962) and …

Class I Bituminous Mixtures, Robert L. Florence Sep 1966

Class I Bituminous Mixtures, Robert L. Florence

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The attached report reflects the degree of excellence sought in bituminous concrete pavements in Kentucky during the past several years. In the evolvement of the present state of the art, idealized concepts of mixture design have been dutifully tempered with practical considerations, experience factors, and performance features which may not be altogether apparent from this report alone. In substance, the study has been concerned with aggregate gradations, construction operations, and quality of the pavement surface. The achievement of gradation control in the dust of filler sizes has provided opportunities to further optimize mixture requirements. Permissive blending of sands has enabled …

Stability Analyses Of Earth Masses, Robert C. Deen, Gordon D. Scott, W. W. Mcgraw Sep 1966

Stability Analyses Of Earth Masses, Robert C. Deen, Gordon D. Scott, W. W. Mcgraw

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

During the past few months (January, 1966, to the present) the Division of Research has been called upon to make site investigations and analyses of foundation and slope stability at several locations in the State. These requests have emanated from various offices and divisions of the Department. Some of these investigations involved considerable effort and time to perform the subsurface exploration and to analyze the problem so that recommendations could be made. These investigations were of significant magnitude and are being summarized in this report.

Mineralized Springs In Utah And Their Effect On Manageable Water Supplies, James H. Milligan, Ray E. Marsell, Jay M. Bagley Sep 1966

Mineralized Springs In Utah And Their Effect On Manageable Water Supplies, James H. Milligan, Ray E. Marsell, Jay M. Bagley

Reports

Need and Importance of Study

Water demands in Utah are continuously increasing. It is essential that these demands be me to insure the continued enhancement of the social and economic well-being of all sectors of our society. Since water needs must be met from a relatively fixed water supply it is imperative that supplies be managed for complete utilization in such a way that all legitimate requirement scan be satisfied.

As our available water supplies are used more completely by making a given supply satisfy more than one use, water quality problems become more pronounced. The multiplicity of uses to …

A Study Of Learning In Adaptive Systems., In Ku Kang

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

The purpose of this study is to investigate the structures of learning processes and their applications to adaptive systems. The learning processes in this study are based on Bayes learning model, which well describes the nature of learning and also is a natural choice from the viewpoint of statistical decision theory.

Fm 30-16, Technical Intelligence, August 1966, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

This is the first edition of FM 30-16, Technical Intelligence, since the massive reorganization of Army intelligence in 1962. The Army Intelligence Production Elements discussed include the Army Foreign Science and Technology Center and the Missile Intelligence Directorate of the Army Missile Command. In Change 1, the Medical Intelligence Office within the Office of The Surgeon General is discussed as well.

The manual explains the Army Technical Intelligence program, discusses procedures for collecting foreign materiel and information about foreign materiel in the field, and the responsibilities of the Army Intelligence Production Elements and the Defense Intelligence Agency in the continental …

Engineering Properties Of Kentucky Soils, Robert C. Deen Aug 1966

Engineering Properties Of Kentucky Soils, Robert C. Deen

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Soils maps, and particularly engineering soil maps, are proving to be desirable in the planning and design stages of many types of structures and land developments. Engineers and community planners, and even administrators, are becoming increasingly appreciative of such information during the very earliest stages of planning and site selection. Problems associated with foundations, drainage, and soil behavior may be recognized early through the use of adequate soil maps.

At present there is no single source of information which presents the engineering characteristics of the soils of Kentucky. When such information is desired, detailed onsite investigations are made. When such …

Vapor-Liquid Equilibria System : Chloroform, Carbon Tetrachloride, Isopropanol, Barnet H. Bursack Jun 1966

Vapor-Liquid Equilibria System : Chloroform, Carbon Tetrachloride, Isopropanol, Barnet H. Bursack

Theses

A study was made of the vapor-liquid equilibria of the ternary system: Chloroform (CHCl3), Carbon Tetra-chloride (CCl4) and Isopropanol (C3H8O). An Othmer still was used for the equilibria determination. Refractive index and density measurements were used to determine liquid and vapor compositions. A comparison between experimental and theoretical values was made using the Margules 3-suffix ternary equations for the correlation.

It was necessary to investigate the vapor-liquid equilibria of each of the three binary systems to evaluate the techniques and equipment used and obtain new data. Only one previous investigation of the …
