Validation Of A Portable Electrochemical Sensor For Real-Time Soil Nitrate Monitoring In Cotton Rhizosphere, Mohammad Solaiman, Elvis D. Sangmen, Ali Reza Galib, Tushar C. Sarker, Anil C. Somenahally, Shawana Tabassum

Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Soil nitrate (NO3) exhibits rapid spatial and temporal variability that conventional point-sampling methods cannot effectively capture, limiting timely nutrient management and plant stress detection. This study aimed to validate a low-cost, threedimensional- printed electrochemical NO3 sensor for continuous in-soil monitoring and to evaluate whether sensor-derived NO3 dynamics reflect plant physiological responses. For this purpose, cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) plants were grown in pots under greenhouse conditions. The sensor was evaluated in two sequential phases: an initial calibration phase to characterize sensor response across a broad NO3 concentration range, followed by a validation phase in the cotton plant rhizosphere. In the …

Genwriter 2.0: A Hybrid Case-Based And Llm Rewriting Approach For Mitigating Implicit Gender Cues In Text, Shweta Soundararajan, Sarah Jane Delany Aug 2026

Genwriter 2.0: A Hybrid Case-Based And Llm Rewriting Approach For Mitigating Implicit Gender Cues In Text, Shweta Soundararajan, Sarah Jane Delany

Conference papers

Gendered language is the use of words or phrases that indicate an individual's gender. Although useful in some contexts, gendered language can reinforce gender stereotypes and introduce bias, particularly in machine learning models for tasks involving people such as recruitment or occupation classification. When textual content about individuals, such as biographies, contain gender cues, models can learn spurious associations between gender and other characteristics of individuals, such as profession, potentially resulting in unfair outcomes such as reduced hiring opportunities for women.

To address this challenge, we propose GenWriter 2.0, a hybrid approach that integrates Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) with Large …

Investigating Simulated Natural Gas Combined Cycle Plants (Ngcc) Performance To Address The Intermittency Of Renewables, Patrick Washington

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

The inherent intermittency of wind and solar energy challenges grid stability, requiring flexible support from natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plants. The objective of this study is to develop a method for evaluating the turn-down performance of the NGCC system and to identify effective strategies to operate multi-island NGCC plants to respond to intermittent power demand fluctuations driven by renewable energy integration. The simulation tool was validated against benchmark U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) subcritical Rankine cycle and NGCC cases. The methodology was then applied to evaluate part load operation, inlet fogging, hydrogen blending, and multi-island dispatch for a …

Radiation Testing And Failure Analysis Of A Complex Heterogeneous Soc, Garrett Smith

Theses and Dissertations

Heterogeneous System on Chips (SoCs) provide a robust platform that can flexibly handle different applications. Their small form factor and low power consumption for their performance have made SoCs an attractive option for space applications. However, SoCs are sensitive to the ionizing radiation found in space. We need to understand how an SoC will behave in the high radiation found in space. This requires us to perform radiation testing of the SoCs on Earth to understand their behavior. The radiation testing and analysis of a heterogeneous SoC is complex as it contains multiple different processing cores, memories, and other system …

Removal Of Heavy Metal Ions From Wastewater By Carbon Nanotubes (Cnts), Waleed Frayyeh, Zainab Mohammed, Abdulkhaleq Mahmood

Engineering and Technology Journal

This work is an attempt to remove cadmium (II) from wastewater by adsorption on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and functional group of carbon nanotubes (fMWCNTs) by using the batch process system and continuous reactor. In the batch reactor, the main variables that govern process efficiency such as the initial Cd (II) concentration, MWCNTs dose, contact time, stirring speed, and pH were studied. The experiments revealed that the amount of cadmium absorption (II) was higher on the increasing fMWCNTs dose and stirring speed. In addition, it decreased significantly with a decrease in the initial concentration of cadmium. The optimum values for …

Improve The Corrosion Resistance Of The Copper-Zinc Alloy By The Epoxy-Wo3 Nanocomposite Coating, Ban Abbass, Kadhum Shabeeb, Ayad Hassan

Engineering and Technology Journal

Metal corrosion is one of the most critical challenges in industrial processes. In this research, nanocomposite coating was synthesized by blending tungsten trioxide (WO3) nanoparticles with Epoxy resin and applied on brass samples to evaluate the performance of corrosion protection under stressed environments. A dip-coating method was adopted to coat the brass sample's surface. Coated and uncoated brass samples have been subjected to corrosion tests to study the corrosion behavior when exposed to corrosive media. Obtained results indicated that the brass coated samples with mixed epoxy\tungsten trioxide (WO3) exhibited reasonable corrosion resistance because of the ceramic protective barrier on the …

A Proposed Channel Estimation Based On Enhanced Sub-Carrier Index Modulation And Packet-Discrete Wavelet Transform To Minimize Bit Error Rate, Ansam Jabbar

Engineering and Technology Journal

For Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and other communication systems, many estimating approaches have been developed to estimate the channel state information and lower the Bit Error Rate (BER). These estimating methods, however, are still subject to the influence of large peak powers compared to average powers. Reduced computational complexity is one of the most significant factors to consider while developing a new estimate algorithm. This study aims to provide a novel design of the Packet-Discrete Wavelet Transform (P-DWT) algorithm for channel estimation in wireless OFDM instead of the fast Fourier transform (FFT). It is presented to retrieve the code …

Optimized Pid Control Of Quadrotor System Using Extremum Seeking Algorithm, Abdullah Muhsen, Safanah Raafat

Engineering and Technology Journal

This paper presents the development of an automatic tuning of conventional PI-D controllers for Quadrotor system. The most critical problem of tuning the parameters of the PID, is that they can drastically affect the performance of the system. Accordingly, Extremum seeking (ES) algorithm is utilized here to reduce a selected cost function that brings the required performance aspects. The results show that the ES-PID controller provides better stability and performance as compared with only PI-D controller. The parameters of ES-PID controller have been successfully tuned and modified to reach the desired destination with significantly less overshoot, oscillations, and faster convergence.
