Purification Of Technical Grade Latic Acid, Edward Francis Wezowicz Jun 1958

Purification Of Technical Grade Latic Acid, Edward Francis Wezowicz

Theses

A method to manufacture purified lactic acid from technical grade lactic acid 04%) was investigated. In this method, technical grade lactic acid was reacted with normal butyl alcohol, the water formed during the esterification was azeotropically removed, The ester formed, was separated from the excess butanol by vacuum distillation. Finally, the ester separated by distillation :as hydrolyzed to a purified grade of lactic acid.

In this study, several features are reported, which to the best of knowledge, appear in a publication for the first time. They are:

1. Conditions for the esterification of technical grade lactic acid with butanol, resulting …

Vapor Liquid Equilibria Studies For System 1: Cyclohexane, Neo-Hexane; System 2: Neo-Hexane, Iso-Octane; System 3: Cyclohexane, Iso-Octane; At Atmospheric Pressure, Robert Halper Jun 1958

Vapor Liquid Equilibria Studies For System 1: Cyclohexane, Neo-Hexane; System 2: Neo-Hexane, Iso-Octane; System 3: Cyclohexane, Iso-Octane; At Atmospheric Pressure, Robert Halper

Theses

Vapor liquid equilibria studies were conducted on three systems at atmospheric pressure. The systems represented were: -

System #1 - Neo-hexane, cyclohexane.

System #2 Neo-hexane, isooctane.

System #3 - Cyclohexane, isooctane.

The object of these studies was: -

1. To obtain reliable experimental data on the above systems that would enable the plot of a series of characteristic curves.

2. To test the experimental data for thermodynamic consistency.

3. To correlate the data with the best of several theoretical equations as represented by Van Lear, Margules, Scatchard-Hamer or Redlich-Kister.

The Design, Construction And Testing Of An Electrical, Transient Heat Flow Analyser, Bruce Wilcox Jun 1958

The Design, Construction And Testing Of An Electrical, Transient Heat Flow Analyser, Bruce Wilcox

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

The purpose of this investigation was (a) to design and build an analog which would produce the solution to a simplified yet typical transient aerodynamic heating problem, (b) to obtain the solution using the analog and to check the accuracy of the solution by mathematical computation, and (c) to code a more involved aerodynamic analog.

This report and any related files are made available to the online through the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum as resources allow. Established in 1998, this museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus. It is and appropriately housed within the walls of the historic 1920 Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory, where the first tractor test was started on March 31st, 1920. Because the pioneer tests became worldwide standards, this location was designated as a Historic Landmark of Agricultural Engineering by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1980, shortly after testing was moved to a …

A Study Of The Reset Cycle Of A Half-Wave Self-Saturable Magnetic Amplifier, William W. Lee Jun 1958

A Study Of The Reset Cycle Of A Half-Wave Self-Saturable Magnetic Amplifier, William W. Lee

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

It was the purpose of this study (1) to investigate the reset cycle of a half-wave self-saturable magnetic amplifier by graphical analysis of the irregular voltage functions appearing across the gate winding during reset; and (2) to determine if possible from this analysis a more satisfactory design method than those now available. Conditions of constant current reset were employed and the core material used had a nearly rectangular hysteresis loop. Resistive loads only are considered.

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear. This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker, point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated. BELT HORSEPOWER TESTS TEST B: The throttle …

A Study Of The Chemical Factors Affecting The Rheological Properties Of A Quartz-Bentonite Suspension In Water, Harold Bruce Treweek May 1958

A Study Of The Chemical Factors Affecting The Rheological Properties Of A Quartz-Bentonite Suspension In Water, Harold Bruce Treweek

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Frequently, difficulties are encountered with mineral pulps in a mineral-processing plant, which are not alleviated or minimized by the application of such simple measures as varying fineness of grind of solid material, changing pulp density, or altering equipment operation (within practical limits). The basis of the difficulty in such a situation may be found in the very nature of the pulp-- its flow characteristics and behavior. Recognition of the problem followed by one-point viscometric measurement to determine fluidity can lead an operator to erroneous conclusions. Underlying this difficulty is the lack of technical literature concerning the application of ion exchange …
