Identification Of Delamination Defect In Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composite Tapered Plate Based On Vibration Measurement, Venkatesan M
Theses and Dissertations
Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite plates have been widely used in various engineering applications due to their high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and durability. Despite their many benefits, Delamination is a separation of the layers in composite material and can occur due to various factors such as impact, fatigue, and manufacturing defects. Identifying delamination in composite structures is crucial for ensuring safety and reliability. In this study, model-dependent vibration methods, which are an effective non-destructive technique, were utilised for delamination identification. The primary objective is to investigate the dynamic behaviour of delaminated thickness-tapered plates and develop a reliable methodology for delamination …

Analysis Of Isotopic Effects On Hydrogen Oxidation, Jacob Carter Wilde
Analysis Of Isotopic Effects On Hydrogen Oxidation, Jacob Carter Wilde
Theses and Dissertations
Tritium generation presents a significant hazard during operation of nuclear reactors and necessitates safety precautions in the case of a combustion incident. Accurate kinetic models should inform these safety precautions, however, reliable tritium data do not exist to generate such models. This work focuses on laminar flame speed, which is an important component of kinetic models. Current estimates based on established kinetic theories and experimental measurements of the other isotopes of hydrogen predict tritium to have a flame speed approximately 70% that of standard protium over a broad range of stoichiometries at one atmosphere in air. These estimates are based …

Distinguishable vibrotactile feedback can convey information non-verbally and complete the sensory loop when using assistive devices. Feedback can increase acceptance of assistive devices but could require personalization as these devices need to adapt to user capabilities and preferences that may affect the location for inducing feedback. Developing personalized feedback for each user may be ideal, but impractical if demand for these devices increases. In this research, we evaluate the hypothesis that the ability to define, generate, and use personalized feedback is preferred and should be provided. The hypothesis is evaluated using a system capable of capturing and recognizing non-verbal inputs, …

Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective Magnetotelluric sounding is an exploration method to obtain the underground electrical structure by observing the natural electromagnetic field, which is easily disturbed by noise. Impulse noise, frequently occurring in magnetotelluric sounding, generally exhibits high amplitude and wide frequency bands, producing significant impacts on the data quality. Methods To suppress such noise, this study proposed a method based on a bidirectional recurrent imputation for time series (BRITS) model. First, the data segments with noise interference were deleted. Second, for the magnetotelluric time series with missing data to be imputed, training sets were constructed for imputation training of the BRITS model. …

The overabundance of suburbs planned and built on greenfield grounds formerly classified as green-belt property is the consequence of ineffective urban development limits. It would be unnecessary to further intrude onto precious greenfield property, which is vital for future recreational, biodiversity, forestry, agricultural, and food supply needs. Controlling the growth of developed land, prohibiting the construction of tall buildings close to the shore, and establishing green open spaces with an emphasis on areas with elevated surface temperatures are the adaptation strategies for reducing Jakarta's urban heat island phenomenon. Urban population growth contributes to increased carbon dioxide emissions, which exacerbates climate …

Optogenetic Control Of Bacterial Dormancy, Yousr Dhaouadi Khattab
Dissertations - ALL
The presence of persister cells makes it difficult to eradicate chronic bacterial infections as these dormant subpopulations arise with exposure to stressors and are capable of surviving antimicrobials that target active cells. Persisters can also revert back to normal growing cells when stressors are removed thus reestablishing the infection. It is therefore important to understand the underlying mechanisms of persister formation, as well as wake-up, and target these systems in order to treat chronic bacterial infections. The formation of persisters, however, remains elusive as there is not yet a clear relationship between the various stages of dormancy. Persister cells can …
