Conductivity And Ionization Of Certain Salts In Absolute Alcohol, Armin Brene Jewell Jan 1924

Conductivity And Ionization Of Certain Salts In Absolute Alcohol, Armin Brene Jewell

Masters Theses

"One of the most striking observations one makes in connection with the study of the conductivities of alcoholic solutions is their great similiarity [sic] to those of aqueous solutions with the exception that the values of the concentrations are very much smaller. The differences are rather of degree than of kind. It will be noted that as the temperature is increased the molecular conductivity increases and the fraction of salt decreases which is what would be expected by analogy"--Discussion, page 43.

The Reduction Of Zinc Oxide By Carbon, George August Zeller Jan 1924

The Reduction Of Zinc Oxide By Carbon, George August Zeller

Masters Theses

"In spite of the fact that the reduction of zinc oxide by carbon is the fundamental reaction upon which the pyrometallurgy of zinc is based, there is a decided lack of accurate knowledge concerning the mechanism of the reaction, the temperature at which it begins, and the effect of various factors upon the rate at which it takes place"--Introduction, page 1.

Test 101: Bear Model B 25-35, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: John Deere D

TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker, point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

The Solubilities Of Certain Inorganic Salts In Anhydrous Normal Alcohols, William Orval Keeling Jan 1924

The Solubilities Of Certain Inorganic Salts In Anhydrous Normal Alcohols, William Orval Keeling

Masters Theses

"An examination of the literature shows that extensive studies have been made of the solubilities of inorganic salts in aqueous, normal alcohols, but that little has been done in determining the solubilities in anhydrous alcohols. Northing was found of a systematic study of the solubilities of NaCl, KCl, NaN0₃ and KNO₃ in the lower alcohols over a fairly wide range of temperature. The author has made a study of the solubilities of the above mentioned salts in lower anhydrous normal alcohols at the temperatures 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 40°C"--Introduction, page 1.

Rammed Earth Walls For Buildings, U.S. Department Of Agriculture Aug 1923

Rammed Earth Walls For Buildings, U.S. Department Of Agriculture

Rammed Earth Collection (1923 - 1959)

Earth has been used for building dwellings from time immemorial. One method of use, superior to others, and which was known to the Romans has been preserved by tradition .t o modern times. This method consists of ramming slightly moist, specially selected earth, without the addition of straw or other material, between movable forms, and is known by itsFrench name, " pise de terre," which means "rammed earth." Pise de terre is a reliable building material when properly handled and is admirably adapted to structures on farms distant from transport routes. Little information has been published on rammed earth in …

Design Of A 100 Ton Asbestos Concentrator, Walter Gammeter Jan 1923

Design Of A 100 Ton Asbestos Concentrator, Walter Gammeter

Professional Degree Theses

"There are at present at least two methods in use for concentrating and classifying asbestos fibers, each of which is satisfactory when used to handle ores for which it was designed. The processes can be referred to, conveniently, as the pneumatic and gravimetric processes, deriving their names from the chief factors used in their schemes of operation"--Types of Asbestos Mills, page 3.

A Study Of The Subsurface Conditions In The North Central Texas Oil Fields, Robert Stanley Burg Jan 1923

A Study Of The Subsurface Conditions In The North Central Texas Oil Fields, Robert Stanley Burg

Professional Degree Theses

"A study was made of the subsurface conditions in Stephens, Eastland and northern Brown Counties, Texas, to determine the structure of the deep producing horizon. The purpose of the work was to locate structural conditions favorable for oil accumulation not apparent at the surface"--Page 2.

Boiler Feed Water Purification At The Gorge Power Plant, Akron, Ohio, Bernerd William Adams Jan 1923

Boiler Feed Water Purification At The Gorge Power Plant, Akron, Ohio, Bernerd William Adams

Professional Degree Theses

"The conditions of operation at the Gorge Power Plant were such that raw water was used in all the boilers. The boilers were operated at an average of about one-hundred and seventy-five percent rating and considerable scale formed in the tubes of the boilers. It was evident that this caused a large loss in fuel and increased the expense of maintenance. It was necessary to employ a number of men to remove the scale. An investigation was made to determine as nearly as possible the loss caused by the use of impure water. After the investigation, an attempt was made …

The Construction, Equipment And Operation Of The Second Largest Oil Refinery In Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez Jan 1923

The Construction, Equipment And Operation Of The Second Largest Oil Refinery In Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez

Professional Degree Theses

"In the preparation of this thesis the writer has endeavored to describe in a clear, concise and simple manner the general scheme carried out by the Foundation Company in the construction, equipment and operation of the Corona Refinery at Chijol, Veracruz, Mexico.

Under construction, the most interesting features of the work executed by the Field Engineering department have been discussed at some length. Throughout this paper elementary details have been omitted, the casual reader being assumed to possess a knowledge of the fundamental principles of engineering.

No attempt has been made to cover the activities of the allied--mechanical, electrical, architectural--departments …

Design Of High Tension Outdoor Substation, Joseph Worley Jan 1923

Design Of High Tension Outdoor Substation, Joseph Worley

Bachelors Theses

"The present day tendency appears to be toward the more frequent use of outdoor substations, where not only the section disconnecting switches, but also transformers, lightning arresters, and indeed all high tension equipment, are exposed to the weather. The control of local feeder circuits at the lower pressures would be by means of switch-panels in cheaply constructed houses erected near the transformers"--Introduction, page 3.
