Effect Of Unionism On Cost Of Coal, Subrahmanya Padmanabhan

Masters Theses

"Coal is not only the base of our civilization and a key to our continued high standard of living but it is also playing a leading part in the recovery of Europe and other backward nations of the world. Our dependency upon coal as a basic source of energy is growing greater and greater every day. Some day atomic power may be our principal source of energy but the list of technical obstacles that block the way for widespread and commercial use of atomic energy is a long one. Unlike its competitors, such as petroleum and natural gas, the reserves …

The Freezing Temperatures Of The System Aniline-Ortho Toluidine, Ray W. Fahien Jan 1950

The Freezing Temperatures Of The System Aniline-Ortho Toluidine, Ray W. Fahien

Masters Theses

"The purpose of this investigation was to determine the freezing temperatures of the system aniline-ortho toluidine and to speculate on the theoretical significance of these results. The properties of this system are of considerable practical engineering interest since the system falls in a class of low-freezing organic mixtures which may have value as fuels for jet propulsion devices required to operate at extreme altitudes or in Arctic regions. Since nitric acid has been found to be a very effective and convenient oxidizer, the search for a suitable fuel to be used in combination led to aniline as having the most …

Separation Of Cobalt From Zinc Sulfate Solutions By Synthetic Cation Exchange Resins, Wen-Hsiang Chang Jan 1950

Separation Of Cobalt From Zinc Sulfate Solutions By Synthetic Cation Exchange Resins, Wen-Hsiang Chang

Masters Theses

"The purpose of the present research is primarily to investigate the possibility of the separation and recovery of cobalt from zinc sulfate solutions by means of cation exchange resins. It is thought that such an investigation, seemingly of academic interest, might throw some light on determining the possibility of processing some industrial solutions containing both cobalt and zinc. Cobalt, for instance, has been well known as one of the most detrimental impurities in zinc electrolytic solutions. In spite of various purification treatments, small amounts of cobalt are often present in the electrolytic solution, causing a reduction in current efficiency and …

The modern US Army vision of the technical intelligence developed during World War II. The army technical services became responsible for technical intelligence. The technical services were bureaus which supplied weapons, equipment, and services to the army, managed the careers of officers in a particular branch, trained specialists, and organized and trained special purpose military units. There were a number of technical services including the Chemical Warfare Service, the Medical Department, the Ordnance …

A Study Of The Differential Seperation Of Galena And Sphalerite, Wilfred E. Nagel Jun 1949

A Study Of The Differential Seperation Of Galena And Sphalerite, Wilfred E. Nagel

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The smelting of complex lead ores is a difficult operation, especially when they contain considerable amounts of iron and zinc. When these ores are smelted, all of the zinc, which is valuable and well worth recovering, goes into the slag. With the advent of the flotation processes, and the ability of these processes to concentrate the lead and zinc minerals into separate products, the smelting of complex lead ores was to a great extent simplified.

Daibase Sill Comanche County, Oklahoma, Jean A. Hardesty

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The mechanics of intrusion and the processes involved are becoming of more and more interest to contemporary geologists, because most of our mineral deposits are associated with igneous intrusions, and unknown-outcropping deposits are thought to be a thing of the past. If, by studying these processes, we could understand why some igneous masses are barren, while others of similar composition carry economic mineral deposits, geological prospecting for hidden mineral concentration would see a new era.

"The object of this thesis is to find analytic expressions for the voltage and current variations along a structure composed of a cascade of identical dissymmetrical four-terminal networks driven harmonically at the sending end and working into an impedance at the receiving end and an impedance that can be placed at any of the junctions along the cascade. The method of analysis that is applied is analogous to that used in solving the long-line problem. A transmission system usually consists of the line or cable itself plus numerous other links whose purpose it is to correct defects in the line …

Geology And Geological Structure Of The Alberta And Saskatchewan Plains, William E. Topley Jun 1948

Geology And Geological Structure Of The Alberta And Saskatchewan Plains, William E. Topley

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Alberta, responsible for ninety per cent of Canada's output, had, by 1947 entered into her fifth year of production decline. Only ten per cent of Canada's oil requirements were secured from home fields. Ninety per cent had to be imported, mainly from the United States. How long could imports be maintained on present levels? During the year, the United States had started rationing; in one sector of its domain. Would this become general? If so, what was the answer for Canada?

Roasting And Leaching Of Montana Chromite, Jerry D. Murphy

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The United States, although the leading consumer of chromite, depends almost entirely on imports for its supply. Domestic production of chromite is limited, because high-grade imported ore is plentiful and inexpensive in normal times. There are several large deposits of chromite in the United States, representing millions of tons of low grade ore. These deposits form a strategic reserve that must be used in time of national emergency.

The Effect Of Temperature On Mine Rocks, James Wilson Snider Jan 1947

The Effect Of Temperature On Mine Rocks, James Wilson Snider

Masters Theses

"The problem of this investigation involves the determination of the coefficients of thermal expansion of mine rocks, and the relationship of porosity, permeability, and consecutive temperature changes to the permanent elongation of those rocks. One of the major problems in mining today is that of the analysis of the action of exposed mine rock under changes of temperature. The immediate cause of a fall of ground in a mining excavation is due to the fact that some part of the mass that falls has been subjected to a stress beyond the strength of the rock. The question arises as to …
