Investigation Of Electronic Holography Using Spice Computer Simulation Experiments, Monish Ranjan Chatterjee
Investigation Of Electronic Holography Using Spice Computer Simulation Experiments, Monish Ranjan Chatterjee
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Using SPICE experiments, it has been possible to verify most of the important aspects of electronic holography. The generation and properties of dynamic echoes under different types of nonlinearities have been extensively tested, and some new information has been garnered in the process. The case of pulse and generalized memory echoes has also been tested, and the results have been fairly satisfactory. Most of all, the simplicity with which the intriguing concept of memory echoes has translated into the circuit implementation on SPICE, and the closeness of the results to predicted behavior have been somewhat of a pleasant surprise.

Interactive Modification Of Quadratic Multiobjective Water Resources Planning Strategies, Paul J. Killian, Richard C. Peralta
Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications
An interactive method is presented for modifying a mtltiobjective water resources planning strategy by changing constraining conditions on regional objectives and local variables. The method is illustrated by modifying a conjunctive use. sustained groundwater withdrawal strategy for minimizing the cost of meeting regional water demand on the Arkansas Grand Prairie. The strategy was developed using a model in which the finite difference form of the two-dimensional groundwater flow equation is embedded in an optimization process. The quadratic optimization is accomplished by utilizing the General Differential Algorithm to obtain values of drawdown. pumping. and recharge in each finite difference cell. Results …

Integrating Working At Home With Information Systems Management, Computerized Conferencing & Communications Center, Joseph C. Schuh
Computerized Conferencing and Communications Center Reports
The history of computerization has its origin in the automation of manual processes - searching out the segments that could be put on a computer. The intended result was that the entire job would be done faster and cheaper. Thus, current computer-based information systems tend to make more efficient use of computers than people. The management function, on the other hand, often seems to focus on competitive skills and salesmanship rather than on the ability to attract and hold talented people. But, such impersonal factors that have driven management practices are changing. There has been a complete reversal in the …

In a target detection communication system, apparatus and method for determining the presence of probable targets based on contacts (which can indicate the presence of a target, noise, chatter, or objects not of interest) detected within a predefined position sector or sectors over a specified number of scans. The position of each detected contact, as a contact of interest, is compared with the positions of contacts detected at previous times or scans. Velocity profiles indicate which previous contacts support the likelihood that the contact of interest represents a target having a velocity within a defined band. The likelihood, which can …

Bonding In Metal Hexacarbonyls, Ramiro Arratia‐Perez, Cary Y. Yang
Electrical and Computer Engineering
A detailed analysis of the valence molecular orbitals (MO) in Cr(CO)6, Mo(CO)6, and W(CO)6is presented. A generalized bonding scheme, which includes participation of metal p electrons in the metal–ligand bond, emerges from our results. The metal p electrons are also responsible for effecting mixings between different sets of carbonyl 5σ and 1π orbitals. In these hexacarbonyls, this ‘‘σ’’+‘‘π’’ metal–ligand bonding contribution is quantitatively as significant as the well known σ donation and π‐back‐donation components. The MO’s obtained with the Dirac scattered‐wave (DSW) method are also used to determine the importance of relativistic effects in …

Design Of A Modulation System Simulator, Vincent Carl Dale
Design Of A Modulation System Simulator, Vincent Carl Dale
Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The development of a Modulation System Simulator is described. The Modulation System Simulator is used to investigate the performance, in the presence of noise, of various analog and digital modulation systems. The methods of modulation studied using this simulator are amplitude modulation, frequency modulation, pulse amplitude modulation, pulse code modulation, amplitude shift keying modulation, and frequency shift keying modulation. For each of these modulation systems a mathematical model is devised and then analyzed to predict the performance of each modulation system in the presence of noise. The results of this theoretical analysis are then compared with the experimental results obtained …
An Investigation To Improve Linear Predictive Vocoder Pulse/Noise Excitation Models, Elizabeth Annella Martina Effer
An Investigation To Improve Linear Predictive Vocoder Pulse/Noise Excitation Models, Elizabeth Annella Martina Effer
Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The quality of synthetic speech from Linear Predictive (LP) vocoders is known to be degraded due to the lack of detail in the commonly used pulse/noise excitation model. In this investigation, it was hypothesized that this degradation is due to the lack of precise timing information in the pulses and to the constraint that each short-time segment of excitation be either an impulse train or white noise. Accordingly, more complex excitation models were implemented using precise timing from peaks in the residual and a mixture of pulses and noise. Since the LP residual is known to be the perfect excitation …
Robot Manipulators And Control, Theresa Wu
Robot Manipulators And Control, Theresa Wu
Theses
This paper on Robot Manipulators brings together theories from three fields : computer graphics, kinematic equations and microprocessor based control.
There are four chapters in this paper, chapter one is the conceptual development on homogeneous transformations, express the position and orientation of the transposition of an object in Cartisian coordinates. Chapter two develops the method of obtaining the Cartisian coordinate position and orientation of the end effector for a manipulator, give the joint coordinate as input and use the homogeneous transformation to express the position and orientation. Chapter 3 is a very difficult one; it solves the parameters for the …

Basic Concepts In Cad & Cam, Chao-Ming Liu
Theses
As the computer revolution is nearing its end, CAD/CAM concepts are being widely accepted and evolving rapidly. This thesis begins with a disscussion of the significance and advantages of CAD/CAM and their relationship with automation. Hardware and software components involved are then introduced. Product design under CAD is done by computers. Computers perform engineering analysis, necessary calculations, and dynamic simulation to complete the complex design. The geometric elements and operational primitives are provided by a data base system. The major components of CAM are then introduced. The term CAM is used in a broader sense to include CAPP, MRP, NC, …

FMS is a new kind of manufacturing system which is flexible enough to handle a limited variety of parts. It usually consists of three main components: machine tools, a material handling system, and a computer control system. The material handling system is the key to integrating manufacturing cells into the FMS. The machine tools used in FMS are programmable and computer-controlled, having the ability to change their operation process rapidly to deal with product changeovers and part design changes. The digital computer used in FMS has the capability of handling various manufacturing processes which are not capable of being controlled …
Frequency Characterization Of A Thin Linear Antenna Using Diakoptic Theory, Howard Harold Smith
Frequency Characterization Of A Thin Linear Antenna Using Diakoptic Theory, Howard Harold Smith
Theses
A frequency dependent analytical expression for the input impedance of a thin wire antenna is obtained using diakoptic theory. In diakoptic theory the linear antenna is seperated into electrically short segments where each segment is treated as a two-port network. This approach eliminates the need for an integral equation formulation. An impedance matrix is found which characterizes coupling between all segments. By expanding the free space Green's function in a power series in wavenumber k each entry in the resultant impedance matrix is obtained as a function of frequency. Enforcement of the continuity of currents and equality of scalar potentials …

Determinants Of Acceptance Of Computer Mediated Communication System, Computerized Conferencing & Communications Center, Starr Roxanne Hiltz, Elaine B. Kerr, Kenneth Johnson, Murray Turoff
Computerized Conferencing and Communications Center Reports
Acceptance of Computer-Mediated communication Systems (CMCS) by managers and professionals corresponds to its incorporation into their daily patterns of communication and work. Acceptance includes at least three inter-related dimensions: amount of use, subjective satisfaction with the process of using the system, and a perception that system use has positive impacts upon productivity.
Pre-use and follow-up questionnaires were distributed to 150- 250 new users of four different CMCS. Three are conferencing systems, designed to support "group work." They differ in terms of comprehensiveness or complexity of design, and size and nature of the user communities; COM/KOM, a Swedish system with mostly …

An Application Of A Heuristic Search Algorithm In Biomedical Images On The Magiscan Ii Image Analysis System, Patricia S. Humes
Masters Theses
The goal of this project was to successfully apply a heuristic search algorithm in the image analysis environment of the Magiscan II Image Analysis System. The purpose of this particular application was to enable the specific segmentation of a white blood cell image by outlining the boundary of the cell nucleus, a process not currently possible with the existing system software.
The method used involved tracing boundaries by choosing points based on a calculated cost factor. The cost factor has several input parameters that will enable it to be applied in a wide variety of applications. Several different cells' nuclei …
