This article assesses the contributions of California Teacher Librarians (TLs) to student achievement, specifically in the area of English Language Arts and Literacy. This comparison-of-means analysis employed two major datasets: the California Department of Education (CDE) school library evaluation survey and California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) data, both for the 2022-23 school year. This study found that students who met or exceeded ELA standards were more likely to be in schools with: a full-time, certified TL rather than a part-time TL or no TL; a TL–full- or part-time–rather than no TL; a TL staffing a single library …

Student discipline in the United States consists of a myriad of methods, including suspension, corporal punishment, isolation, seclusion, and restraint. Since the onset of COVID-19, students and staff have experienced an increase in trauma which has impacted the social-emotional skills of students and teacher burnout. Post-COVID student discipline requires a different approach to discipline combined with restorative practices, which can alter the discipline landscape. This qualitative case study investigates the impact of proactive empathetic discipline and Restorative Practices on student discipline, executive functioning, and school culture.

The purpose of this research study was to explore the different ways former female collegiate athletes transitioned out of playing their sport. Through qualitative interviews, the research aimed to understand the challenges these athletes faced, such as loss of identity, emotional distress, the absence of structure and support after leaving their teams. It also examined how unprepared these athletes were while going through the transition. The participants in this research study are all former division three college softball players who have just graduated college or have been out for a maximum of ten years. Over the past five years, Latiné students have contributed most of the nation’s increase in college degrees earned. But even with more people enrolling in college, undergraduate retention remains a concern, raising critical questions about equity in higher education (The Pell Institute, 2023). This thesis examines burnout among Latiné undergraduates, who face financial strain, familial responsibilities, and lack of representation in resources, contributing to their underrepresentation in graduation rates. This narrative literature review explores the intersection of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), online education, and the role of private Christian universities in addressing educational disparities for Hispanic students. It synthesizes existing research on the challenges Hispanic students face in higher education, including financial barriers, limited digital access, underutilization of student support services, and institutional identity issues. Using a correlational research design, this quantitative, descriptive study was conducted at a two-year community college and a four-year public university. A modified version of the Perceived Service Quality (PSQ) instrument was used to survey full-time, undergraduate students at each institution to examine perceptinos of service quality and whether those perceptions impact a student's decision to return the next semester. Students at both institutions in the study reported a high level of satisfaction in all three primary dimensions of service quality; no significant differences were found to exist in the way in which service quality is perceived by students based …

The purpose of this research study was to explore the education and experience of special education administrators (SEAs) and their perceptions of the effectiveness of the support they provide to probationary special education teachers (SETs), particularly in relation to the teachers' professional growth and job satisfaction. This qualitative study employed an interpretive approach, focusing on the perspectives of SEAs regarding their knowledge in special education, the workplace supports they provide, and the impact of these supports on SETs' professional development and career decisions. Data was collected from interviews with 11 SEAs who had experience supervising probationary SETs.

Building Bridges: Union Efforts To Address Stress Among Educational Staff, Theodore Michael Hamilton

This mixed-methods study examines the relationship between administrative support and educator stress and burnout in a post-COVID unionized school district. Grounded in Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory, the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, and the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping, the study surveyed 102 educational professionals and conducted semi-structured interviews with union delegates. Quantitative findings revealed that 75% of staff worked beyond contracted hours, and 63% assumed additional unpaid responsibilities. Lower levels of perceived administrative support were significantly correlated with higher burnout and greater intent to leave the profession. Despite increasing cyber threats to higher education, little research examines how administrative leaders experience and navigate these crises to keep their institutions operational. This hermeneutic phenomenological study explores the lived experiences of seven administrative leaders in three higher education institutions following cyber attacks that disrupted normal operations. This study examined how leaders make sense of cyber crisis experiences and what factors shape their decision-making during response and recovery. Key findings reveal five critical areas of impact. Teacher emotions play a pivotal yet understudied role in shaping the educational experiences of Black students with disabilities (SWDs). This study examines how five special educators in a fully inclusive elementary school understand, experience, and navigate their emotions in relation to Black SWDs. Using a qualitative approach grounded in portraiture, this study explores the intersection of race, disability, and emotion, revealing how teachers internalize, resist, and negotiate dominant ideologies within the broader educational system.

This quantitative study examined the relationship between school leadership experience and African American students’ completion of Texas Education Agency-approved college readiness courses. Using 2021–2022 data from the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) in Region 7, the study analyzed average years of experience for principals and assistant principals across high schools. Pearson correlation analysis, with Holm correction and effect size calculations, was used to explore potential relationships. Results showed no significant correlation between principal experience and course completion, but a statistically significant positive correlation was found for assistant principal experience (r = .26, p = .034), indicating a small effect size. …

Blackgirls can grow up, attend school, and never have a teacher who looks like them. Their teachers may never tell them they could become great teachers someday, or school may not be an affirming place they can imagine returning to as educators. Black women make up only 6% of K-12 teachers, and this research shares the life stories of fourteen Blackgirl educators from that notable group, highlighting the challenges they faced on their journey to becoming teachers. Community college students must navigate complex financial aid policies and procedures to obtain their aid award. In this study, I investigated how Students of Color at a community college experience financial aid disbursements. Through qualitative interviews, I found that community colleges disburse aid to students through a process I define as structured disbursements, which delays students’ receipt of their aid. Using Critical Race Theory (CRT) to frame this study, I argue that racist notions about Students of Color with financial need influence how aid is disbursed in the community college sector, which ultimately harms these students. The purpose of this study was to identify a set of knowledge, skills, dispositions, and practices that are important for STEM leaders to consider as constructs of a STEM theory as they plan and implement a STEM program. The research design included a modified Delphi panel to gain consensus on the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and practices, called competencies, that effective STEM leaders consider when planning and implementing a STEM program. This study is a qualitative interpretive phenomenological single case study of Black leaders in an urban, public school district in the southern region of the United States. In this school district, demographic disparities existed between the student population and the leadership.
