A Character Study Of Teachers As They Appear In American Fiction In 1900, Carol E. Alalouf

The advent of the twentieth century brought with it an increased concern about education, curricula, teachers, and the approaches used in the classroom by teachers. A history of American education could be written in terms of "movements" and "emphases." During the course of each movement, its advocates were likely to become over-enthusiastic about some teaching device, method, or technique. Somehow, the impression would be created that they found the answers to all significant educational problems.
