Freud And Engels: A Comparison Of Sex Roles, Curtiss Ewing
Freud And Engels: A Comparison Of Sex Roles, Curtiss Ewing
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Three issues growing out of the Freudian paradigm repeatedly have been raised in connection with the history of the female sex role: (1) Freud's neglect of the existence of the mother goddesses, (2) his downplaying of the cultural stage of the matriarchy, and (3) the effect of these two issues on the potential for a good outcome in psycho-analytic therapy for women. The dissertation takes up the three issues through a comparison of two works that draw upon much of the same anthropological data: Freud's Totem and Taboo and Engels' The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State. …

Visual Perception And Recall Of School-Age Navajo, Hopi, Jicarilla Apache, And Caucasian Children Of The Southwest, Laurel Le Mieux Bland
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
It is a matter of public record that the present system for educating Indian children attending de facto segregated Indian schools has failed to serve Indian schoolchildrens’ needs as evidenced by low academic achievement levels, accelerating over-age in grade level, and high drop-nut rates. This may be due in part to lack of knowledge regarding the cognitive strengths and learning styles of Indian children, although much appears in the literature regarding their weaknesses as associated with school readiness and academic accomplishment. This study attacks the problem by attempting to determine if a significant difference is demonstrated between Indian and Caucasian …

"Project Dial": An Early Childhood Screening Program, Lewis S. Sarff
Masters Theses
This field study addressed the problem of "actively seeking" out and identifying children (ages 3 to 5 years) likely to develop late learning problems upon school enrollment. The procedures developed and reported in this paper deal with initial public relations, facilities, personnel, an evaluation instrument Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL), hearing and vision testing, and reporting of results to parents and school personnel.
The paper also includes means and standard deviations for DIAL subtest scores by one year age groups and by sex, as well as simple and multiple r's for each of the DIAL variables individually …

Establishment Of A District Media Center In Ottawa School District 141, William L. Connelly
Masters Theses
The study consisted primarily of an evaluation on the media program in the Ottawa Elementary School District 141 and recommendations for improving this program. A key element in improving the program is the establishment of a district media center.
The study begins with a review of the literature concerning the role of the media in schools, the value of coordinating media programs, and the role played by district media centers.
The paper explains the categories used in evaluating the schools and examines each in relationship to the established criteria set forth in Standards for Educational Media (Library and Audiovisual) Programs …

The writer was requested to identify activities which might provide a more effective occupational curriculum at the Occupational Skills Center (OSC), a cooperative facility serving the high school students in the Federal Way, South Central and Highline School Districts.
After reviewing the existing programs, the decision was made to determine the most effective methods of attracting new students to the existing programs rather. than increase the number of classes.
A survey was taken of the current OSC student body to determine how they first became interested in the OSC. In addition, they were asked why other students failed to attend …
Survey Of Second And Third Class School District Administrator Evaluation In Washington State, Mack Douglass Armstrong
Survey Of Second And Third Class School District Administrator Evaluation In Washington State, Mack Douglass Armstrong
All Graduate Projects
In October 1974, a pilot survey was conducted at the state convention of the Washington Association of Secondary School Principals in Spokane, Washington. The concern of the pilot survey was to indicate the general compliance for school administrators with RCW 28A.67.065. The results indicated that 75 percent of the districts surveyed evaluate their principals while only 41 percent indicated an evaluation of the superintendent. Were these percentages to hold true and accurate, eighty districts in the state would not be evaluating their principals and 188 superintendents would not be evaluated. Fifty-nine percent of the school districts then would be failing …

Ralph Mueller Planetarium Presents Ufo Program, Jack A. Dunn, Harvey L. Gunderson
University of Nebraska State Museum: Programs Information
In 1974 the Ralph Mueller planetarium presented a program on the subject of UFOs. This program was difficult to produce because of the extremely subjective nature of the topic. It would have been easy to slant such a program in one of two ways. The program might label all persons seeing UFOs as "wild-eyed kooks"; or it could swing to the other extreme, where all testimony and "evidence" are accepted without attempting to subject it to scientific scrutiny. This information, then, is presented in the hope that the reader will realize that the subject can and is being studied in …
Robert Fletcher Gilder: Archeologist For The Museum, Martha Haack, Arthur H. Wolf, Harvey L. Gunderson
Robert Fletcher Gilder: Archeologist For The Museum, Martha Haack, Arthur H. Wolf, Harvey L. Gunderson
University of Nebraska State Museum: Programs Information
With the 1974 donation by Omaha's Joslyn Art Museum of a large collection of artifacts to the University of Nebraska State Museum, a chapter in the history of early archeological work in Nebraska was made complete. The artifacts were collected by Robert F. Gilder in the course of his archeological explorations of 1907-1912. Considering Gilder's long association with the Museum and the fact that much of the pioneering work in Nebraska archeology is unknown to most Nebraskans, a brief discussion of Gilder's life and works is offered.
