The purpose of the study was to describe the structure, organization, and strategies of the Eisenhower Middle School mathematics program and to evaluate the effects of an individualized mathematics program on the students achievement in mathematics at Eisenhower Middle School. The study was limited to the students at Eisenhower Middle School, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the school year, 1974-75. There was an average of 199 seventh graders and 241 eighth graders that participated in the program. Preliminary Studies In The Acquisition Of Portuguese Morphology By Brazilian Children, ZéLia D. Mediano

The first major purpose of this study was to find out how Brazilian children internalize some Portuguese morpho­logical rules. The second major objective was to compare the findings with findings from other languages and with universals in the acquisition of morphology.

A research instrument was constructed to measure the productive aspects of substantive plurals, regular and irregular verb inflections, diminutives and augmentatives, and compound words. Real and nonsense words were used.

The population consisted of middle-class children attending private schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A sample of 210 children was randomly selected: 30 in each age group …

An Analysis Of Factors Related To Participation In Public School Adult Education Programs By Kentucky School Superintendents, James Halcomb

The purpose of this study was to identify some of the variables which may be factors in the decision of Kentucky public school superintendents to develop adult education programs in their school district.

A mail questionnaire was developed and submitted to ail of Kentucky's 189 public school superintendents. Two groups of superintendents were compared; the experimental group was comprised of ninety-three superintendents who elected to implement adult education programs; while the control group consisted of ninety-six superintendents who did not implement adult education programs. A Study Of The Effectiveness Of Four Strategies For Teaching Conjunctive, Disjunctive, And Relational Concepts, George Beer Austin-Martin

Statement of the Problem

This study was concerned with determining the effectiveness of four strategies, as measured by posttest scores, Exemplification­Characterization, Characterization-Exemplification, Exemplification­Characterization-Exemplification, and Characterization-Exemplification­Characterization, for teaching toward conjunctive, disjunctive, and relational concepts. Differences in effectiveness of the four strategies for high and low achievers in mathematics were also studied.

Procedures

The sample, consisting of 480 students (grade levels 6, 7, and 8), was given a booklet containing instructions, five programed concepts to be taught by one of four strategies, and an answer sheet containing the correct answers to questions in the five programed concepts. Assertive Training For Short-Term Psychiatric In-Patients, John P. Shethar

The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of assertive training with short-term psychiatric patients. The sample consisted of 36 subjects--18 males and 18 females--who were hospitalized patients at the Bernalillo County Mental Health Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Patients were asked to participate in the study upon admission, and were randomly assigned to groups of six to either of two control conditions or to an assertive training condition. The Assessment-Only control group was only administered pre- and post-tests. The Placebo Control group received ten hours of painting and drawing between the pre- and post-tests. Personality Testing By The Schools: A Possible Invasion Of Privacy, Angelika Hoyman

Contemporary critics, concerned with the maintenance of personal privacy, have termed the use of personality tests a "white glove rack and screw" . Monroe H. Freedman, Dean of Hofstra University School of Law, while testifying before a congressional subcommittee, compared the use of psychological tests to the administration of truth serums and found both to be an affront to personal dignity.

Nevertheless, the 1960's witnessed a three-fold increase in the number of school counselors employed in most schools and a nation-wide survey of these counselors indicated that at least one-third of their time was spent in dealing with the personal …
