The Staffing: A Naturalistic Study Of The Educational Placement Process, Susan Laurene Law

The intent of this study was to do a naturalistic observation of a series of staffings in order to generate a descriptive basis for theoretical notions or working hypotheses concerning the procedures, functioning and social relationships within the process. Relevant categories that emerged from the data were: labelling, test validity and reliability, laws and regulations, encouraging a decision, space, and parental participation. The study suggests that there are differences between the formally prescribed procedures and functions of a staffing and the actual behaviours of professionals and parents involved with the process. The Nature Of Man And Educational Administration: A Ternary Function, Ralph Moberly Coupland Jan 1981

The Nature Of Man And Educational Administration: A Ternary Function, Ralph Moberly Coupland

Dissertations

Problem. There appears to be a growing uneasiness with much of current educational administrative theory and practice. It is hypothesized that this is largely due to inadequacies of the fundamental presuppositional platforms upon which these theories, practices, and methods are built.

Purpose. The primary purpose of this study is to discover and present the fundamental and broadly generalizable presuppositional platforms upon which the theory, methodology, and practice of educational administration should be built, and to develop and present a theoretical model for the educational administrative function that is built upon these presuppositional platforms.

Method. The method may be described as …

Problem. Despite tentative postulations and explorations of the person/job interaction, the specific relationships between personality and occupational behavior are not clearly understood. In particular, the relationships between human temperament and various aspects of personnel administration in an educational setting are generally unknown. The purpose of this study was to profile the temperament traits of professional educators in the Seventh-day Adventist school system, grouped on the basis of occupationally relevant selection variables; and to investigate the role of personality as it relates to personnel appointment, appraisal, and mobility.

Method. A demographic questionnaire and the Temperament Inventory were administered to 486 teachers, …

A Study Of Opinions Related To Corporal Punishment: 1980, Susan J. Walz Dec 1980

A Study Of Opinions Related To Corporal Punishment: 1980, Susan J. Walz

Masters Theses

A traditional method of correcting errant behavior of young children has been the use of corporal punishment in the home and 'in loco parentis' in our public schools. Corporal punishment as a disciplinary method, stands on historical precedent and continued social practice, having found its way to America as part of Old World tradition and Puritan theology.

In an attempt to assess current opinion regarding corporal punishment in the schools, a twenty-two-item questionnaire, based on contemporary child development theory, was developed. Responses of two hundred eighty-one teachers and student teachers were studied for the purpose of finding differences in various …
