Analyzing Arkansas's Course Credit And Unexcused Absence Policy, Sarah Mckenzie, Josh Mcgee, Sarah R. Morris

In this brief, we examine the implementation of A.C.A 6-18-222, a statewide policy in Arkansas that addresses the unexcused absences and course credit. We find wide variability in the policy’s local implementation. We suggest districts examine their thresholds and language in this policy, and implement Early Warning Intervention and Monitoring Systems to improve school culture.

Gravimetric Geoid For Egypt Based On Properly Application Of Helmet's Method Of Condensations With Window Remove-Restore Technique, Atef Makhloof, Hussein A. Abd-Elmotaal, Mostafa Ashry

This study uses the window-method for merging the gravity field wavelengths inside the remove-restore technique (RRT) to get the gravimetric geoid for Egypt using Helmert's models of condensation. In this case, the window approach (Abd-Elmotaal and Kühtreiber, 2003) was utilized to avert taking the topographic-condensation masses into account twice inside the data frame. A gravimetric geoid for Egypt has been calculated utilizing Helmert's first and second condensations approach and Airy- Heiskanen model. Within the context of the geoid computation, a thorough comparison between the various Helmert approaches and Airy-Heiskanen has been made. Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore how community college leaders responded to unpredictable events and opportunities that affected their career decisions using the five elements of planned happenstance theory (Mitchell et al., 1999). A second purpose was to understand how California community college leaders perceived that career planning enhanced or hindered their career decision-making. A further purpose was to identify recommendations community college leaders believed will advance the career trajectories of future leaders.

Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement

This study examined the experiences of Asian American students with one community college’s student services: Writing Center, Financial Aid Center, and Asian American Student Center (AASC). Data included survey responses, focus group interviews, and individual student interviews. Chi square tests were conducted to see if there were significant differences in participants’ responses based on ethnicity (Cambodian/Khmer vs. other), gender, and age (traditionally vs. non-traditionally aged). Focus group and individual interview data were analyzed thematically. The Coronavirus Disease [COVID-19] pandemic was a public health crisis. As of January 2022, there were over 314 million infections and over 5.5 million deaths (Assefa et al., 2022). Unfortunately, COVID-19 disproportionately impacted minoritized populations. This study will investigate the relationship between COVID-19 and the impact on minoritized students attending Title I elementary schools in one urban school district. According to Lopez-Ibor (2006), "disasters are diverse events as a consequence of a danger that affects social groups and produces material and human losses resulting in insufficient resources of the community and insufficient coping through social mechanisms" (p. 22). The study explores predictive associations between student perceptions of a sense of belonging, teacher perceptions of teaching efficacy, family perceptions of school fit, and academic growth within a post-COVID-19 shutdown landscape. Learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic instructional disruption can have long-lasting impacts, necessitating instructional interventions that aim to close learning gaps and increase learning gains (UNESCO, 2020). The purpose of this study was to determine instructional leaders and instructional faculty's knowledge of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports Framework as an intervention tool to support struggling students. The study analyzed instructional staff knowledge of the definition, purpose, and implementation of an MTSS Framework. This study also evaluated the extent to which school-based leadership utilizes MTSS data to inform decisions related to intervention around academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning. The purpose of this study was to examine the high school experiences of theatre students at a large university in Central Florida to determine which of the Collective for Academic and Social Emotional Learning's (CASEL) five social-emotional learning strategies (SEL 5) were remembered (CASEL, 2022). Accessibility of educational accommodations has increased but can be frequently inconsistent for undergraduates with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The didactic relationship between educational accessibility staff with faculty, who are increasingly adjuncts, facilitates many course-learning accommodations. This descriptive phenomenological study explored the perceptions and professional experiences of educational accessibility coordinators with adjunct faculty in their implementation of learning accommodation for undergraduates with ASD. Findings from this study suggested that accessibility coordinators negotiated expectations of unprepared adjunct faculty and ASD students to address issues throughout the semester.

LGBTQ students experience a lower sense of belonging at community colleges. The correlation between campus and classroom climate and academic success, campus involvement, identity, level of outness, and well-being for LGBTQ students contributes to their decreased sense of belonging. Non-LGBTQ-affirming and non-inclusive community college campuses and classrooms lead to feelings of fear, invisibility, lack of validation, mental health challenges, and poor academic performance for LGBTQ students. Higher education has yet to address the deeper causes of inequities in student participation rates in study abroad programs across student demographics. Factors contributing to inequities include disparities in access to social and cultural capital and neglect of identity-related experiences of racially minoritized and first-generation, historically excluded students. This qualitative study examined faculty and staff experiences in the development of study abroad programs and explored their considerations for the needs of historically excluded students.
