Athletics had a long, bitter struggle to find its way into the schools. The corruption that grew out of the pre-school athletics finally awakened the school administrators in the early part of the twentieth century to do something about it. The first step was to receive the program into the schools. However, this did not solve all the problems. Administrative problems have prevailed in the schools ever since the entrance of athletics into the educational curriculum. It can be safely said, however, that the problems are fewer, primarily because of the education of the administrators. The current problems are centralized …

The principal purpose of this study was to gather information showing the effects of non-promotion on the achievement of those children, currently enrolled in the Sunnyside Public School District, who had been retained in the first grade. The purpose of the study was (1.) to determine the primary reasons given by the teacher for effecting the retention; (2) to show the progress of each of these children in reading and, in some cases, in arithmetic and spelling during his subsequent elementary school years.

The vast number of school districts in Washington State has been greatly reduced over a period of years by various consolidation and reorganization laws. These laws cover a span of over sixty years, and many revisions were innovated during that time. An attempt shall be made to expose the reasons why school districts have been reorganized with a short historical background which ultimately affected consolidation. The basic or main laws governing reorganization shall be written in sequential order from 1903 to 1957.

Constructive classroom discipline is an important part of the educative process. It provides children with the opportunity to experience the satisfaction of fitting into a social group in an atmosphere which is conducive to learning and which promotes healthy emotional control. Academic learning and disciplined behavior are inseparable. If the latter breaks down, the former is impaired. Good teaching is made possible only by good discipline. This paper will explore, by means of the research, what is considered good discipline in the classroom.
