Group homes were established as a result of House Bill #465 passed by the Washington State Legislature in 1969. The purpose of this bill was to make it possible for some people living in state institutions to move into smaller and more "homelike" places.
The purpose of the study was to determine what has been done in the area of group homes under the Washington State Guidelines. A study was made of the existing group homes and the programs offered at the present time. After collecting data, a plan was developed to create a proposed farm-living group home for mentally …

This paper examines the distinctions between general education and education for a career, with a view to synthesizing the literature and presenting salient problems. General education can be defined in several ways. It is defined here as education that puts a person in touch with the main outlines of knowledge available to a historical period or a given culture. Theoretically, education is general if it has no one specific vocation as its end and no one specific discipline or partisan viewpoint as its specialty. By way of example, the medieval quadrivium and trivium can be viewed as "general education," in …

On June 23, 1972, the Congress passed Title IX of the Education Amendments. Under Title IX "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance . . . ." This law affects virtually every institution of education in the country.
Elementary schools should be in compliance with Title IX this year, 1977. Secondary schools have until July 21, 1978, to fully comply.

As the title indicates, this field study deals with the process of constructing and implementing a teacher evaluation program in the Stonington School District. The process is broken down chronologically and covers a three year period. The paper attempts to describe the Stonington School District and point out the need for formal evaluation of teachers everywhere, but more specifically in Stonington.
The construction of the instrument by the Stonington teachers is outlined in a step-by-step process. In a series of Inservice Workshops, the district teachers discuss the validity and purpose of evaluation, plus what they felt were evidences of good …

The purpose of this study was to determine the personnel, hardware, software, and space requirements for an ideal learning resource center at Crowder College and to prepare a written plan for reaching this goal. The achievement of this plan would be spread over a five year period.
The existing learning resource program at Crowder College is shown to include well-established library services and very limited media services. A full description of the existing learning resources program is given and its relationship to the rest of the college is shown.

The Optimum Learning in Regular Classrooms Project is an adoptive-adaptive ESEA Title IV-C project with two purposes: (1) to provide more effective educational service to children with special needs through training the mainstream teacher to diagnose these special needs as well as implement solutions for such children on an ongoing basis, and (2) to provide more efficient support services to the mainstream teacher in his/her efforts to meet the special needs of exceptional children, whether handicapped or gifted.

One purpose was to maintain a log of activities during a one month time period in order to give proper perspective to the variety of tasks performed by a residence hall counselor. Through exposure to local school districts and their programs, professionals such as teachers, leaders, and educators can be trained to become effective administrative leaders.
The primary purpose of this paper is the acquisition of a broad base of knowledge and varied practical experience pertinent to becoming an effective administrative leader in the future. This paper describes the internship program. The activities included in this internship such as conferences, meetings, and visits to schools and the Illinois Office of Education in Springfield are detailed chronologically. A number of suggestions are made for effective future administrative intern programs.

The primary purpose of this study was to determine if Iowa high school principals, in the early months of the 1976-1977 contract implementation and after the negotiations of the preceding year, believed that the collective bargaining process or results affected teacher behavior. The responses of 73 randomly selected principals in Iowa indicated that, in fact, they believed collective bargaining had affected the behavior of teachers in at least nine areas. Although individual differences existed, the following behaviors, affected in the indicated manner, were generally regarded as having a positive influence on the operation of the school: 1. Problem. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the spatial allocation for curricular purposes and the special features of each of the twenty-seven public and private secondary schools built in Puerto Rico during the years 1967-1976. The problem was: Were these schools being constructed in accordance with the desired curriculum; was the curriculum an outgrowth of the resulting physical structures, or were the curriculum and the planning of the structures unrelated? -- Method.
