An Evaluation Of The Involvement Component Of The Educational Planning And Resource Management System (Eprms) In The Orange County Florida Schools, Michael E. Mekdeci Jan 1984

An Evaluation Of The Involvement Component Of The Educational Planning And Resource Management System (Eprms) In The Orange County Florida Schools, Michael E. Mekdeci

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study was to determine if the Educational Planning and Resource Management System (EPRMS), implemented by the Orange County Public Schools, increased parent and/or teacher involvement and communication in the school level decision making process. The study surveyed parents, teachers, and principals about their perception of the communication and involvement at their school during 1982-83 and 1983-84 (the year EPRMS was fully implemented). It was assumed that any increase in communication and/or involvement would be due to the Educational Planning and Resource Management System. A questionnaire was developed after an extensive literature review and input by a …

Cognitive Growth Through Expressive Writing All That Jazz, Christopher C. Burnham Jan 1984

Cognitive Growth Through Expressive Writing All That Jazz, Christopher C. Burnham

To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development

I want to develop jazz as a metaphor for growth. Jazz, generally considered, signals incongruity in music. Something happens where it was not originally to happen or where nothing was scheduled to happen-and nobody minds. In fact, the surprise-the incongruity-is the energy of jazz. In more formal terms, the creative impulse of the musician assumes power. He or she improvises between set notes, or in a void the composer leaves for such improvisational purposes. The musician is free to play, literally and figuratively. Each influences the other; they enlarge each other and expand potentialities.

A Study Of The Dual Role As Athletic Director And Principal, James A. Cook Jan 1984

A Study Of The Dual Role As Athletic Director And Principal, James A. Cook

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to investigate job satisfaction perceptions of individuals holding positions which combined the functions of principal and athletic direction. Specifically, this study compared actual workload with desired workload, (i.e., that which would provide a reasonable amount of job satisfaction). The study was predicated on the research findings that indicate that the amount of work is relative to a given individual as opposed to being an absolute quality.

A review of the research and literature revealed that few publications have been targeted toward workload and the dual educational administrator. The implications of job-related work, as it …

A Proposal For The Implementation Of A Quality Circle Program At Cumberland High School, Joseph A. Ciaccio

Masters Theses

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this study was to implement a participative management program at Cumberland High School in Toledo, Illinois. The researcher, who had been principal at the school for five years, believed that participative management may be a solution to what he perceived as problems within the school. These problems included low teacher morale, below average student achievement, and a lack of open communication between individual teachers and administrators. In addition, teacher gains in effectiveness and productivity as based on formal teacher evaluation reports, were minimal.

The Quality Circle participative management approach, as reviewed in literature, seemed …

The Politics Of Survival At Home: Bargaining Power On Campus, Don B. Morlan Jan 1984

The Politics Of Survival At Home: Bargaining Power On Campus, Don B. Morlan

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

Drawing on department chair experience, this article argues that communication departments must recognize and improve their political standing within colleges and universities. It contends that departments often generate substantial enrollment and tuition revenue while still lacking disciplinary credibility and bargaining power. The article proposes a curricular model that requires communication majors to complete structured course blocs in other departments rather than relying on loosely distributed electives. The model is justified as broad preparation for applied communication careers and as a way to make other academic units invested in communication program health. By linking curriculum design, student preparation, and campus politics, …

Faculty In Community Colleges Should Conduct Research For Publication, Carol S. Hopson Jan 1984

Faculty In Community Colleges Should Conduct Research For Publication, Carol S. Hopson

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

Challenging the idea that community college faculty should be defined only as teachers, this article argues that research and publication are necessary for instructional improvement, professional identity, and institutional credibility. It traces the historical image of junior colleges as teaching institutions, then notes changes in student populations, instructional conditions, faculty credentials, and community college roles. The article identifies different categories of community college faculty and argues that instructors should investigate student needs, teaching materials, workloads, class size, developmental education, and classroom methods rather than relying on university based research. It also rejects myths that research is administratively irrelevant, incompatible with …

An Investigation Of Parents' Perceptions Of The Junior-Academy Principal's Role In The Lake Union Conference Of Seventh-Day Adventists, John Carey

Dissertations

Problem. If he/she is to satisfy or accommodate the expectations of the various groups that interact with him/her, the principal needs to be aware of how they perceive his/her role; but no studies were found on parents' perceptions of the junior-academy principal's role.
