Jean Piaget's Theory Of Equilibration And The Self-Regulating Behavior Of Sixteen Children, Luisa Crucita Chávez May 1978

Jean Piaget's Theory Of Equilibration And The Self-Regulating Behavior Of Sixteen Children, Luisa Crucita Chávez

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

An investigation is made of Jean Piaget's theory of equilibration, and of the equilibrating behavior of sixteen children in school. It is demonstrated that equilibration could be a valid construct from which to view children's behavior--especially learning behavior. It is also demonstrated that a sound curriculum base can be derived from the equilibration theory of Piaget. Questions about educational pedagogy can be cast in terms of equilibration theory.

An observational study is made of sixteen children's self-regulating (equilibrating) behavior in their classroom environments. The children differ in mental structure in terms of sex, level of development, level of curiosity and …

Report On The Teaching Component Of Faculty Loads, Wku University Senate

Faculty Senate

This study of faculty loads is in response to widely expressed concerns of the senate regarding perceived differences in work required of the various members from Western's teaching faculties. The entire senate eligibility list was used as the sample because it, having been screened for senate eligibility, represents our teaching faculties, as distinguished from the administrative faculty, or other nonteaching personnel, and it is the senate for whom this report was prepared.

An Analysis Of A Nontraditional Baccalaureate Degree Program: The Bachelor Of University Studies At The University Of New Mexico, Patricia Ann Ormsby Blette

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

In 1969 the faculty of the University of New Mexico (UNM) app oved a proposal for a new degree program submitted by the Committee on the Enhancement of the Educational Process (CEEP). The new degree, entitled t11e Bachelor of University Studies (BUS), would be a non-traditional degree with few of the structure that characterized existing degree programs at UNM. The BUS would give students the option of developing unique, interdepartmental, and intercollege degree programs that could not be formulated in any other degree-granting colleges of the University.

The Effects Of Sex Role Stereotyping On The Educational And Career Choices Of College Students, Zahra Habibi

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

The purposes of this study were : (1) to explore the differences in sex-role stereotyping between college students selecting traditionally sex-appropriate fields of study (Traditionals) and students selecting traditionally sex-inappropriate fields of study (Pioneers), and (2) to examine the differences between the two groups in terms of some specific factors assumed to be related to the development of sex-role stereotyping, i.e., specific parental characteristics, peer influence and school experiences.

Subjects of the study were 222 junior and senior students from 8 departments of the University of New Mexico. Four of them were assumed to be traditionally male dominated fields-namely, civil …

Television As A Source Of Stereotypes, Amy Lange Atkins

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of the research was to explore the manner in which culturally related images of Anglo-Americans projected by television were related to stereotyped attitudes in MexicanAmerican children in the Southwest. Previous evidence indicated the more personal experience one has with a cultural group, the less one might tend to believe the stereotypes projected by the mass media of that cultural group. This study was an extension of previous studies which examined the relationship between these variables.

Procedures and Methods

A survey of a sample group of Mexican-American children was conducted using a questionnaire-interview method. Data …

The Effects Of Biofeedback Training On The Attention Span Of Hyperactive, Learning-Disabled Children, Sol S. Gould Mar 1978

The Effects Of Biofeedback Training On The Attention Span Of Hyperactive, Learning-Disabled Children, Sol S. Gould

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

In applying biofeedback to the field of hyperactivity, this study investigated whether children diagnosed as hyperactive, learning-disabled can be trained to demonstrate control of their autonomic nervous system as evidenced by biofeedback temperature control. Assuming that such learning can occur, the study attempted to determine the extent to which such training may affect the attention span of the subjects. All of the children participating as subjects were between 8 and 10 years of age and attending the Albuquerque Public Schools. The study utilized a randomized group pretest-posttest design. Four evaluation instruments used to measure the dependent variables included: the Gould …

An Evaluation Of The Institutional Goals Inventory For Graduate Education Goals Identification, Carroll Lee Hall Jan 1978

An Evaluation Of The Institutional Goals Inventory For Graduate Education Goals Identification, Carroll Lee Hall

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Change has occurred throughout the history of higher education. Today declining enrollments, decreasing revenues, and demands for new types of programs have placed pressures for innovative changes in graduate education. With the approach of a more austere era in higher education, it has become important for graduate schools to answer questions such as: "What are you presently doing?" and "What do you intend to do in the future?" One method for answering these questions is to reach clear and concise understandings of the goals held by campus constituents. Stated goals help tie together assumptions, values, and hopes into a coherent …
