An Examination And Analysis Of The Department Of Special Education In The Muskegon Heights Public Schools, Doristine Louise Minott Aug 1984

An Examination And Analysis Of The Department Of Special Education In The Muskegon Heights Public Schools, Doristine Louise Minott

Masters Theses

This project was undertaken so that an indepth view of the role of the director of special education and the Department of Special Education, Muskegon Heights Public Schools, could be observed. While there are many facets in the Department, much of the time was spent reviewing the Michigan Department of Education Administrative Manual for Special Education, working on administrative skills, and getting a feel for operating the Department.

It was determined that the Department is a very complex one indeed. Because policies change so often from the state level, it is often difficult to stay abreast of things. Therefore the …

An Investigation Of Articles Produced In The Theatre Discipline By Institution: A Journal By Journal, Year By Year Analysis, Kittie W. Watson, Larry L. Barker, Robert N. Hall

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

Institutional article production in theatre is analyzed through a year by year and journal by journal review of selected theatre journals. The article situates publication frequency as one possible measure of institutional research activity while noting that it should be considered alongside other indicators of quality. It describes a method for assigning publication credit to institutions, including procedures for handling shared authorship and criteria for excluding reviews, bibliographies, reports, plays, and commentaries. The article presents ranked institutional publication totals and journal specific patterns across the period studied. By connecting research productivity, institutional comparison, and disciplinary publication patterns, the article contributes …

Job Listings In Spectra: 1982–1983 Update, Mary Jane Shadowen, James M. Gelwicks

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

Job listings in Spectra are examined as an indicator of academic employment patterns in communication during the 1982 to 1983 listing year. The article updates prior analyses by reviewing total listings, appointment status, faculty rank, salaries, degree and experience requirements, geographic distribution, and specialization areas. It notes that listings remained below earlier Placement Service Bulletin levels and raises questions about changes in the academic job market and the use of Spectra for advertising faculty vacancies. The article identifies continuing demand for assistant professor positions, doctoral qualifications, and speech fundamentals, while also noting changes in broadcasting, mass communication, public relations, and …

A Study Of Olga Smyth, Director, High Valley School: 1934 Graduate Of Bank Street, Deborah Stone

Graduate Student Independent Studies

A study is made of the educator Olga Smyth, 1934 graduate of Bank Street. Examins her particular style of working with children, and what it is based on in her history, education, and personality. The continuity of her work and the consistency of her approach is shown, from her days at Bank Street through the making of "Incitement to Reading" (film by L. J. Stone showing her teaching first graders at the Poughkeepsie Day School in the 1950's) to her work at her own school with children whose emotional and learning problems make it impossible for them to succeed in …
