Do Students Notice If Institutions Require Their Faculty To Prepare For Teaching?, Adam M. Caskie
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Higher Education is the gateway to a successful life, and students need their institution's support to make it to graduation. Undergraduate students have their primary academic interactions with a university through its faculty and the courses they are required to complete to earn a degree. Engagement with faculty is a key factor in student satisfaction with their institution. The extent to which faculty make time for excellent teaching and additional experiences for students is driven by the reward systems at the institutions where they research, teach, and advise. This research study investigates whether student perceptions of faculty interactions and teaching effectiveness …

Their Stories, Our Testimony: A Narrative Inquiry Into The Remote Teaching Experiences Of Community College Clinical Nurse Educators During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Catherine E. Fenner
Doctor of Education Program Dissertations
This narrative inquiry explored the lived experiences of clinical nurse educators who taught at community colleges during the COVID-19 global pandemic, contributing to the growing body of literature about what nurses endured during the pandemic. The pandemic and the ensuing havoc it caused occurred when the profession faced significant staffing shortages. In the early months of 2020, when the virus was spreading rapidly, many states issued stay-at-home orders requiring nursing programs to pivot to remote learning platforms. Teaching hands-on skills, communication techniques, and time management strategies through virtual and remote pedagogy was a time of confusion for nurse educators, who …

Journal of Science Education for Students with Disabilities
Despite the adaptive strengths and unique problem-solving skills demonstrated by neurodivergent (ND) individuals, they remain underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. High unemployment rates among individuals with disabilities emphasize the need for addressing barriers to entry and persistence in the workforce. This study introduces a program designed to enhance opportunities for neurodivergent STEM scholars with financial needs, supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program involves: 1) a weekly cohort course to engage in professional development, 2) use of the Birkman Method® survey to help scholars identify and communicate strengths, fostering self-awareness and growth, and 3) …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
The American higher education system is in a time of profound change (Levine & Van Pelt, 2021). Pressures such as shifting student demographics (Grawe, 2021), evolving technologies (Crawford, 2021; McCarthy, 2007), and increasing financial strains on institutional operating models (Marcy, 2020) are just a few of the stresses reshaping the landscape. Postsecondary leaders also face heightened scrutiny from prospective students and their families regarding the value of a college degree (National Association of Colleges and Employers, 2022). This study investigates how three Texas school districts responded to pandemic-related needs and adapted their locally developed Community-Based Accountability Systems (CBAS) to maintain accountability in the absence of standardized test data. Drawing on seven semi-structured interviews with district leaders, the study explores how educational leaders identified and addressed the emerging needs of their communities, such as mental health, technology access, and social-emotional support. The findings demonstrate that districts leveraging CBAS before the pandemic were better positioned to meet these challenges, providing more comprehensive accountability that extended …
