Mathematics is a core subject in the Kenyan education system, since it is the backbone of STEM and equips the citizens with computational skills as an ingredient for vision 2030. Logarithms as a topic in mathematics is widely used in sciences, calculus and in various careers such as in computer programming, Richter scale for earthquakes and many more. However, many learners still find challenges when tackling logarithms questions in mathematics papers in K.C.S.E. exams. It is against this backdrop that my study explored on the secondary students experiences in the learning of logarithms in form three class; a case of …

Exploring The Challenges Faced By Teachers In The Teaching Of Mathematics In Large Classes: A Case Of A Secondary School In Kisumu County, Kisumu West Sub-County In Kenya, Benjamin Agalo Oyoo
Master of Education
It is unclear as to what specific number of learners in a particular classroom would qualify a class to be called a large class. The manner in which teachers handle classes that have few students may not be the same as how they would handle large classes. This implies that as the number of learners increase in a given class, the increase would in most cases come with challenges that may affect the quality of teaching and learning in such classrooms. Mathematics, being one of the most important subjects in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) category of subjects, needs …

Writing is one of the four skills in language learning which helps students to develop a set of intellectual and motivational plans. In the second language, learning how to write requires additional ability and time. This means that teachers have to motivate students to develop good writing skills by providing instruction in the writing process. Literature shows that most native speakers find it difficult to learn writing skills and therefore for second language learners it can be harder. In Kenya Kiswahili is a second language to many and therefore students have to be scaffolded in composition writing using relevant approaches …

Cloud Computing Architecture For Elearning Systems In Secondary Schools In Tanzania, Kennedy F. Mwakisole, Mussa M. Kissaka Dr, Joel S. Mtebe Phd
The African Journal of Information Systems
In recent years, schools have been investing heavily on information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure to implement eLearning systems to enhance the quality of education in secondary schools in Tanzania. The majority of these systems are implemented using a traditional web-based eLearning approach on school premises which is costly and limits usage due to lack of scalability and flexibility. Consequently, many schools have started adopting cloud computing as a solution. However, this adaption depends on well-defined cloud eLearning architecture. This study proposed cloud architecture for implementing an eLearning system in secondary schools in Tanzania by adopting various layers proposed in …
