Phonics A General Survey Of The Subject, Mary Rosalie

Bachelors’ Theses

"Phonics is a term usually applied to the study of sounds as they are related to reading." Its aim is to give the child power in the independent recognition of words, therefore, a knowledge of the use of phonics has always been considered a necessary part of the primary teacher's equipment, and probably no question has been more widely asked in the field of primary reading, than, "How and when shall phonics be taught?"

The Nervous Child, Miriam Wolfson Jun 1929

The Nervous Child, Miriam Wolfson

Bachelors’ Theses

Nervousness is not, as it is commonly thought, a disease of the nerves from the physical point of view. It is rather a functional disorder affecting the patient as a whole, especially mentally. Nervousness may be described as an excessive activity of the nervous system, resulting in a peculiar type of response to the ordinary stimuli of life and showing itself in such symptoms as over activity, temper, irritability or restlessness.

The Influence Of Horace Mann On American Education, M. Carol Fleischmann Jun 1929

The Influence Of Horace Mann On American Education, M. Carol Fleischmann

Bachelors’ Theses

The ordinary individual believes implicitly in the principle of causality, whether he has learned to couch it in the precise language of the metaphysician, "Every effect requires a sufficient cause", or, whether to his untutored mind "Something don't happen from nothing" A stranger travelling the length and breadth of this country could not fail to be impressed with the material provisions which state and community have made for the education of America's youthful generation. Buildings rivalling each other in beauty of architectural design, equipment of a superior order, rolling campuses of inviting beauty,--these would be the first characteristics of our …

The Teaching Of English In The Junior High School, Louise Knowlton

Bachelors’ Theses

The study of the English lenguege and its literature occupies a unique position among the studies of the secondary school--a position supported by universal recognition for its importance to all pupils. No other subject can compare with it in the amount of attention afforded throughout the secondary-school course or in the extent to which it meets the needs of all pupils. The importance of the study of the mother tongue and its literature seems to be quite generally recognized. It requires a careful analysis and interpretation of its special values and purposes. It is only when these are properly conceived …
