Objectives Of Reading, Veronica M. Mortell
Objectives Of Reading, Veronica M. Mortell
Bachelors’ Theses
Reading is the most important subject of the entire school curriculum. Every one needs to read with some facility, for it has been chiefly through the agency of reading that man has entered into the possession of the best thought and experience of all the generations which have preceded him. These constitute for him his intellectual and social heritage.
Adapting Instruction To The Needs Of A First Grade, Genevieve Y. Younge
Adapting Instruction To The Needs Of A First Grade, Genevieve Y. Younge
Bachelors’ Theses
Fortunately for the young child as well as for society we have evidences of the growing appreciation of the educational possibilities of early childhood. This is manifested in the opportunities provided by universities for the training of teachers of childhood. Teachers College, John Hopkins, Yale, Harvard and the universities of Iowa and Columbia offer research courses in this particular study.
In 1905 a conscious attempt was made to work out a technique of teaching built upon a new conception of the teacher as a guide rather than as a dictator, but few were interested, so the attempt was not revived …

The Mentally Deficient Child And The Public School, Nellie M. Freeman
Bachelors’ Theses
The history of the mentally deficient child dates back to ancient times. The subject is one which has been recognized for many hundred of years but little constructive work in the educational field has been done in this country or other countries until the latter part of the nineteenth and twentieth century.

Project Method Of Teaching Geography, Lillian Manteufel
Project Method Of Teaching Geography, Lillian Manteufel
Bachelors’ Theses
"Geography teaching is in a confused condition at the present time". This sentence of a well known geographer expresses the same idea that I felt about my own teaching of geography. Many teachers feel the same way. How do you teach geography? Do you have the pupils recite by topics or do they solve problems? Do the pupils make up their own problems? Do you motivate your geography lessons? How do you socialize a geography lesson? Does every child participate? Are the children interested in the assignment? Do the children study or do they come to class unprepared? I do …
The Gifted Child, Mabel E. Mclaughlin
The Gifted Child, Mabel E. Mclaughlin
Bachelors’ Theses
Within the last few years the problem of the education of the "gifted" child has taken on an aspect of very great importance. Numerous investigations have demonstrated the fact that children of the same chronological age exhibit differences of five years or more in mental age, and that even though they may have had the same number of years of schooling, they will be found scattered through several grades in a typical school.
Reading Objectives In The Junior High School, Loretto J. Clarke
Reading Objectives In The Junior High School, Loretto J. Clarke
Bachelors’ Theses
Reading has been recognized as one of the vital organs of education since the days of "the three R's." As a tool it has thrived in spite of poor teaching; but reading as an art has been reserved for the favored few. During the past decade or two, great strides have been made, together with faltering steps, toward new and greater goals. Bigger and broader aims have, in the entire educational scheme, roused educators to study reading methods and endeavor to bring this vitally important subject under the x-ray to discover just what are the needs of the modern reading …

Technic Of Supervision, Inez Halsted
Technic Of Supervision, Inez Halsted
Bachelors’ Theses
Supervision is a subject of vital importance to every superintendent of schools, since its chief function is the training of teachers. There has never been a time in the history of the schools of America, when teachers so much needed to be awake to the changing social needs and to have a workable understanding of the increasing knowledge of how children learn and of child psychology as they do today. Parent-Teacher organizations everywhere are discussing children's problems in a most scientific manner; Study groups are a part of every College Women's Club. Communities are outdoing each other in improving the …
