Deviant Behaviour In Competitive Sport. A Sociological Attempt At Explaining The Phenomenon, Zbigniew Dziubinski
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
This article seeks to use selected sociological theories to account for the phenomenon of deviance in sport. Two main theoretical approaches are employed herein: the functionalist/structuralist approach and symbolic interactionism. The analysis that follows leads to the conclusion that deviance which occurs in sport is predominantly a consequence of deviance in modern societies. Sport, in turn, is just a convenient area for deviant behaviours to be manifested, which often happens more clearly and conspicuously than in societies.

The mechanisms through which metabolism is involved in depression and stress disorders have been extensively investigated. However, their assessment using exogenous measures is a current limitation. Exercise, as is well reported in animal studies, exerts a critical regulatory influence on the main factors known to participate in these mechanisms. This overview describes the role of cortisol, leptin, irisin and BDNF in the exercise physiology and the known mechanism through which these factors act in anti-depressant mechanisms. Furthermore, the exercise …
Critical-Thinking Experiences Of Chinese And U.S. College Students: A Comparative Analysis Using Phenomenology, Lu (Wendy) Yan
Critical-Thinking Experiences Of Chinese And U.S. College Students: A Comparative Analysis Using Phenomenology, Lu (Wendy) Yan
The Qualitative Report
In this study, I investigated the critical-thinking experiences of seven Chinese international and five U.S. students attending a large public university in the United States. I conducted a comparative analysis of these groups’ different experiences with critical thinking in this context, while closely following the twin methods of epoché and reduction in phenomenology to remain attuned to any personal biases. My results indicated that Chinese and U.S. students experienced critical thinking differently on the basis of the four universal existentials noted by van Manen (2016): lived experiences of relation (self–other), materiality (things), time, and space/place. Specifically, the Chinese students tended …
