The Problem

The current era is called the Space Age -- a time of phenomenal scientific progress. Accordingly, improvements in science programs at all levels of education are being urged and promoted on all sides. Federal grants are offered to motivate science teachers to improve their training; federal funds are available to aid school systems in the purchase of scientific equipment; and capable high-school and college students are urged to choose careers in the sciences.

The purpose of this study is to investigate some aspects of the ecology of Aplodontia rufa in greater detail than in previously published accounts. I have concentrated my investigation on the areas of reproductive activity and burrowing habits, but will comment on other aspects of their ecology when pertinent. The exploratory survey method was used to determine the extent to whole scientific knowledge, related to principles and practices of healthful living, was enhanced during the secondary school education of students attending four Seventh-day Adventist secondary schools in Hong Kong. The tool, in the form of a health knowledge test designed to fit the cultural patterns of the population, was applied to 358 Form I (grade 7) and Form V (grade 11) students of the specified schools. Through this study the writer will attempt to: (1) identify and investigate the current standards of an effective audiovisual program; (2) identify and evaluate the rationale which can be used in determining the basis for the utilization of audiovisual materials in the field of science education; (3) use this rationale as a basis for selecting appropriate audiovisual materials for the seventh grade physical science curriculum in Morgan Junior High School; and (4) develop recommendations concerning the utilization of audiovisual materials in the science curriculum at Morgan Junior High School in Ellensburg, Washington.
