"I'M Here To Teach": Transgender Educators' Experiences In The Public School System, Dana Thompson

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative study explores the experiences of transgender educators in Minnesota public schools, examining how they navigate professional environments and view their impact on students, staff, and the community. Interviews with three current educators were completed in addition to an autoethnographic reflection. Several key themes emerged: the significant gap between non-discrimination policies and actual lived experience; the differential treatment based on gender identity, with transgender women facing more severe professional consequences than transmasculine educators; the critical importance of transgender representation for LGBTQ+ students; and the necessity of robust support systems to combat isolation. The purpose of this study was to examine academic and demographic variables that predict timely completion of a bachelor of science in nursing program. Timely completion of a nursing curriculum affects current students, future students, health care organizations, and the general public. The purpose of this quantitative, retrospective study was to identify evidence-based academic admission criteria that would help select pre-nursing students mostly likely to complete the nursing curriculum on time, without failures. A Phenomenological Study To Understand How Military Identity In Women Veterans, Enrolled As Community College Or University Students, Impacts Their College Experience After Leaving The Military Service, Jessica M. Bradley

Women veterans represent the fastest-growing demographic among military veterans and are increasingly pursuing higher education after their service. However, their experiences as student veterans remain underrepresented in academic research. This phenomenological study investigates how military identity influences the college experiences of women veterans enrolled in community colleges and universities in Oregon. Through in-depth interviews with women veteran students, the research explores the complex layers of identity influenced by military service, gender, and higher education.

Background: During the first semester of biochemistry experience, students focus on learning the structure and function of biomolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Visualizing these structures and understanding interactions between molecules helps students better understand biological function. A variety 3D visualization tools are available, ex. PyMol, Chimera, Avogadro, Blender. Within the past decade, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications gained more popularity. VR with its immersive visual experience is more sought-after, but the higher cost and the need for headset creates limitations in the classroom. Despite providing a statement that he was at his home at the time of the murder and the word of his wife, a suspect named William McKee was interviewed and said he saw Lewis go to a house on the corner of the street with Coleman. ANTI-SILENCING FUNCTION 1A (ASF1a) is a multifunctional protein involved in pivotal cellular processes. In plants, ASF1a interacts with HIRA to participate in KNOX genes silencing. To further characterize how ASF1a regulates gene expression, a CRISPR CAS 9 vector was created and ready to be transferred into Arabidopsis thaliana to induce mutations in the 3’ region of the A. thaliana ASF1a gene that corresponds to the ASF histone chaperone protein domain. We hypothesized that phyllotactic alterations will take place as a result of the mutations.

Over the past year, we have launched community workshops, AI literacy initiatives, and interdisciplinary research projects to foster responsible and informed use of generative AI tools.

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore educators’ perceptions of how special education teachers (SETs) influence special education students' (SESs) transition from secondary to postsecondary opportunities in a small, rural high school in Tennessee. The researcher focused on special education educators and how they support students with disabilities in transitioning from secondary to postsecondary opportunities, including education, employment, apprenticeships, and military. These factors were explored through data review and interviews from educators’ perspectives of SETs. Prior research has indicated a noteworthy relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), working memory (WM) function, and quality of life (QOL) among individuals who have experienced traumatic events within their lifetime. Despite much prior research focusing primarily on adult combat veterans of war, minimal data exists evaluating the effects of traumatic events in civilians who have yet to pass the age of complete neurological development (25 years or age). Ancestral Sequence Reconstruction (ASR) is a computational technique that infers and resurrects ancient protein sequences to explore molecular evolution and enable protein engineering. By integrating phylogenetics and statistical modeling, ASR produces stable, mutation-tolerant enzymes ideal for directed evolution. This poster presents a workflow for reconstructing enzymes from pathogenic bacteria and highlights ASR’s value in uncovering novel functions and advancing applications in drug discovery and synthetic biology.

There is an inherent regional need to support students in recovery, and often their demographics and lived experiences coincide with the student body of a community college. This is particularly salient to the segments of this population which concurrently suffer maltreatment due to other intersectional biases implicit in many health care and education-based systems inside the United States (Cole, 2009; Mance et al., 2010; Rosenthal, 2016).
