The Perceptions Of Teachers Concerning Three Major Causes Of Burnout, Linda Lee

Considerable attention has recently been given to the record number of teachers who are choosing to leave the profession. In 1979, National Education Association President Willard H. McGuire stated that "a major new malady has afflicted the teaching profession and threatens to reach epidemic proportions if it isn't checked soon" (p. 5). He was referring to teacher burnout, which has stricken thousands of dedicated teachers and precipitated their desire to leave the teaching profession. One such teacher is former Iowa State Education Association President Ken Pfile, who in February, 1983, handed in his resignation after 16 years of teaching. Mr. …

There has been an increased interest in how school children accept the disabled since the passage of Public Law 94-142 (The Education for All Handicapped Children Act), in 1975. This law created a situation where, for the first time, handicapped children might be placed in a regular classroom. In order for this mainstreaming to be successful, the handicapped children must not be subjected to the ridicule and/or rejection of the non-disabled children in the classroom. There are sixteen regional Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centers serving the United States. The centers were designated by the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, formerly the National Paraplegia Foundation, founded by the paralyzed veterans of America in 1948. The purpose of rehabilitation of this group of patients is "to provide spinal cord injured individuals with the opportunity to resume 1 a lifestyle as similar to their preinjury state as is possible" (Lawson, 1978, p. 573). Rehabilitation centers utilize the efforts of many professionals working as a team to help their patients maximize their potential for independence.

A Comparison Of Twelfth Grade School Counselors' Attitude Toward The Aims Of The Women's Movement And The Career Options Offered To Their Counselees, Stella Elisa Alonzo

The Problem. The women's movement calls for social change and new options for women in society among these options are career options which women never had before. High school counselors make career suggestions for both male and female counselees. This study attempted to examine if these counselors who agreed with the aims of the women's movement would offer more non-traditional career options for both male and female twelfth grade counselees. Procedures. CPGA's list of names of 839 School Counselors was used to survey the attitude toward the feminist aims. The research paper was designed to study the ability of sighted counselors to counsel blind clients with empathy. While blindness should not pose a difficulty, many sighted counselors do have difficulties working with blind clients. Based on the research done for the study, this problem occurs mainly because of their difficulties in distinguishing empathy from sympathy. A major problem is the counselor's understanding of his/her own feelings about the blind client. Many counselors cannot get beyond the label "blind" and view the total person, not simply the handicap.

Videotape Modeling Of Self-Disclosing Behavior In Counselor Trainees In Practicum Experiences, Manouchehr Moshggou

This study investigated the effects of videotape modeling of self-disclosing behavior on counselor trainees. More specifically, the study was designed to determine whether an increased willingness to disclose one's attitudes and opinions in appropriate situations could be taught to counselor trainees as part of their training. The subjects were two groups of counselor trainees selected, not on a random basis, but on the basis of their availability from two different sections in the Counseling Practicum at Fresno State University. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adjustment to separation and divorce for individuals participating in a psychodramatic or an educational divorce adjustment group. Because of the rapidly rising divorce rate and the subsequent emotional upheaval that may accompany this process, the need for assistance in helping people through the divorce experience is receiving increased attention by mental health professionals. Subjects in this study were 54 volunteers solicited through multimedia announcements in the Albuquerque, New Mexico, metropolitan area. All subjects were administered the Fisher Divorce Adjustment Scale (FDAS) as a pretest measure during an initial orientation meeting. In …
