The Teaching Of English In The Junior High School, Louise Knowlton Jun 1929

The Teaching Of English In The Junior High School, Louise Knowlton

Bachelors’ Theses

The study of the English lenguege and its literature occupies a unique position among the studies of the secondary school--a position supported by universal recognition for its importance to all pupils. No other subject can compare with it in the amount of attention afforded throughout the secondary-school course or in the extent to which it meets the needs of all pupils. The importance of the study of the mother tongue and its literature seems to be quite generally recognized. It requires a careful analysis and interpretation of its special values and purposes. It is only when these are properly conceived …

Religious Contents In School Readers, Mary Leocadis

Bachelors’ Theses

A task worthy of the wisest minds and of the biggest efforts is to place before the young a series of reading books that will contain noble and elevating thoughts and inspiring ideals, the best that has been enshrined in the literature of ages. Whatever may be gleamed from the glorious past that will contribute to the better and holier living of the present is, by right, the heritage of the youth of today. A reading book, therefore, should be a collection of the sayings and writings of the best and noblest men. "Nothing," says Professor Brooks, "in the entire …

Prevocational Guidance, Burton L. Ambrose Apr 1929

Prevocational Guidance, Burton L. Ambrose

Bachelors’ Theses

A critical appreciation of the historical aspects of any contemporary educational movement is important. All modern social programs have their roots in the past. Our modern world is not static. No civilization rests on permanent changeless foundations. All reveal a growing changing organism. Development is the keynote, of what we often presume to call, progress. Movements, which were important a generation ago, have ceased to register a present value. Society is in a constant state of flux, and at no two periods have conditions been the same.

Care And Education Of The Defective School Child, Mathew Barkley Apr 1929

Care And Education Of The Defective School Child, Mathew Barkley

Bachelors’ Theses

In the past, we have either paid too much attention to the defective child, to the detriment of the normal children in the schools, or in a majority of the cases we have neglected him entirely. We must figure out a system of education which will take care of him adequately without working a hardship on the children who are able to do the regular school work. We must measure hie capabilities and gauge his work according to hie ability.

Diganostic And Remedial Reading In The Primary Grades, Myrtle C. Merritt

Bachelors’ Theses

"READING is both the most important and the most trouble-sane subject in the elementary school curriculum," (1) The importance of this subject is recognized by educators everywhere. Recent years have brought forth a particularly large number of investigations in this subject. William Scott Gray (2) in his Summary of Investigations Relating to Reading, Chapter II, gives a. historical sketch of such investigations. Many of these had their beginnings in European experiments which paved the way for the work in American laboratories by Lough,· Delabarre, Huey Dodge, Dearborn, Judd, Freeman, Schmidt, C.T. Gray; Buswell and others. For example, C. T. Gray …
