Public Policy And Postsecondary Accessibility: An Agenda For Action, Jacqueline Stalker

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Accessibility has become a major problem in Canadian postsecondary education. The phenomenal and continued growth in student enrolment over the past twenty-five years has placed the concept of universal access in peril. Of particular concern in the Province of Manitoba is the restricted access to community colleges. In this research project, the problem is assessed and information is provided to support planning and social policy development.

Seven research Strategies were used in the design to generate and to verify the data. A multiply triangulated social survey was conducted to: (1) identify the major factors, policies, and practices affecting accessibility to …

Theory Z And Administrative Management, Judy Cureton, Bob Cureton

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

Focused on communication departments in higher education, this article considers Theory Z as a framework for administrative management during periods of limited resources. It describes Theory Z as an approach grounded in participatory decision making, egalitarian relationships, delegation, shared philosophy, and attention to human resources. The discussion links these principles to communication administration by emphasizing consensus, quality circles, departmental self study, consumer definitions of program quality, and long range planning. It also addresses hiring, evaluation, rewards, recognition, and the influence of individual interests on departmental objectives. The article closes by discussing trust, subtlety, and intimacy as interpersonal foundations for management, …

The Relationship That Teachers' Concerns And Their Perceptions Of Organizational Climate Have With Innovation Maintenance, Frederic Wayne De Vall Aug 1983

The Relationship That Teachers' Concerns And Their Perceptions Of Organizational Climate Have With Innovation Maintenance, Frederic Wayne De Vall

Dissertations

The main purpose of this study was to determine what some of the factors are that have an affect upon the maintenance of an innovation. Many educational change models focus upon the initiation and implementation of educational innovations in schools. This study tested some of the factors identified, from the literature review as affecting innovation maintenance, upon one innovation which is being used by teachers in several school districts. The first factor centered upon the concerns teachers have about an innovation they use in their classrooms. The second factor centered upon teachers' perceptions of the organizational climate that exists which …

Burnout And The Reading Teacher, James C. Sadler, James W. Cunningham Jul 1983

Burnout And The Reading Teacher, James C. Sadler, James W. Cunningham

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

It's the end of the school day on Friday and most of the teachers are congregating in the lounge and classrooms, happily anticipating the weekend. Today she informed the principal that she would not be renewing her contract as a remedial reading teacher and, although saddened by her decision, she also feels relief that months of increasing frustration and self-doubt have reached a conclusion.

Part of the tragedy of this hypothetical but all too familiar example of Carole is her …
