The primary objective was to establish a PLC composed of co-teachers from different disciplines, leveraging existing co-teacher training strategies to improve equity and communication within co-teaching partnerships. The PLC operated through an online forum, where the researcher, serving …

Climate Change In An Urban Catholic School: Taking The Temperature With A Three-Pronged Sel Intervention, Christa Marie Chodkowski
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)
This Improvement Science Dissertation in Practice examines the impact of a 10-week social-emotional learning (SEL) intervention on school climate at Newberry Catholic Academy, an urban Catholic school with high teacher turnover. The intervention, combining a book study, daily gratitude journaling, and common planning time, aimed to improve collaboration, collegiality, and belongingness among faculty. Using a convergent mixed-methods design, the study assessed changes in teacher perceptions and the effectiveness of each component. Quantitative analysis via the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test revealed significant declines in Professional Learning (p=.01), Feedback and Coaching (p=.03), and School Leadership (p=.01), highlighting a need for further inquiry. Qualitative …

Creating Resilient Social Workers: A Pilot Study On Implementing Resilience-Building Skills With Social Work Students, Andrea Sparrow
Doctor of Social Work Capstone Projects
Social work students in Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited programs are expected to develop competencies in working with individuals, groups, and communities. However, limited research exists on their preparedness with resilience-building skills to navigate occupational challenges. This mixed-methods exploratory study examined the relationship between completing online resilience-building modules and students’ knowledge of resilience strategies. A pre-and post-assessment measured knowledge uptake among undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Louisville’s Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. The study explored two key questions: (1) What is the relationship between completing resilience-building modules and students’ knowledge …

Exploring Full-Time Female Faculty Members’ Experiences With Institutional Climate In Rural Arkansas Community Colleges: A Preregistered Study, Gabrielle Patterson
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The current literature implies that female faculty in community colleges often endure a chilly organizational climate of marginalization. This marginalization makes female faculty more likely to leave higher education than male colleagues because of a lack of appreciation and recognition. This qualitative exploratory multiple-case study (preregistered study) uses the Job Embeddedness Theory as its conceptual framework. It explores full-time female faculty members’ (F-TFFMs) experiences with institutional climate in rural Arkansas community colleges to understand their motivations to teach in the setting and the reasons they choose to stay in their position. Findings from this study will show F-TFFMs motivations to …

This is after identifying a research gap on how these colleges can retain their significance in the current educational environment that has altered their functionality concept and approach (Smith, 2018). Initially, HBCUs were instituted to specifically meet the needs of Black students who lacked higher educational opportunities due to racist practices and systemic injustices that barred them from joining Predominantly White Institutions and other non-HBCUs (Jones & Williams, 2020). Hence, they were designed to accommodate the Black students' learning …

Organizational Policy Initiatives For A Neurodiverse Workforce, Renae Taylor
Organizational Policy Initiatives For A Neurodiverse Workforce, Renae Taylor
ATU Scholars Symposium
Neurodivergent individuals make up a significant percentage of the population and yet lag in employment due to employment barriers of the traditional workplace. While the benefits of a diverse workplace are well documented, there is still a large deficit when it comes to neurodiversity equitable access. To attract and retain a neurodiverse workforce, organizations must make changes that align with research-backed methods for policy building and in turn change the organizational leadership focus to a transformational, growth-based framework.
This applied project focuses on organizational policy initiatives that support the neurodivergent employee, with an emphasis on accommodations and modifications, inclusion, and …

Queer Rights Learning Through Transnational, Digital Communities Of Practice, Hayley D’Souza, Brindaalakshmi Kumbakonam, Bren Kutch, Aparna Arora, Vani Bhardwaj
International Journal of Human Rights Education
Traditional human rights education (HRE), and education writ-large, often depends on and reinforces binary hierarchies. The Society of Gender Professionals (SGP) reflects on how its trans-national, digital communities of practice (“Gender Circles”) are actively “queering” traditional HRE. This article shares reflections and learnings from 14 one-on-one interviews with Gender Circle participants, most notably from the Breaking Gender/Sex Binaries Circles. By facilitating spaces that co-create knowledge, build community, and center lived experiences of people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC,) SGP disrupts and queers binaries and hierarchies in education and other constructs, such as with …
