Today there are seventeen and a half million people age 65 or over in the United States. This is nearly one-tenth of our population, and the number is estimated to be increasing by one thousand daily. There are already twenty-five million people age 60 or over, six million age 75 and over, and more than ten thousand over the age of 100. With increased study and research on various factors in the aging process and how they affect the health of elderly people, these figures may go even higher.

Educators are always alert and watchful for new and better instruments of measurement to be used in serving the student in gaining new insights into his concept of self. Of all the areas of individual differences which lend themselves to testing there is none in greater need of development than that of personality assessment. Any new test, any new approach to this assessment, is worthy of careful research and analysis. Introduction

The approach to teaching biology for general education is significant. In a course of this nature, the learning of biological principles should be of primary concern. It is hoped that such principles then will lend themselves to the understanding and use of the scientific approach to everyday happenings. To do this, however, requires that the teacher use the inductive method for developing an understanding of the principles, and the deductive method for applying them.
