Hexapod Herald and Other Entomology Department Newsletters

The Newsletter Committee has succeeded in documenting departmental activities in an outstanding manner. All of us in the department appreciate the wonderful efforts and many hours spent by the Newsletter Committee: Brett Ratcliffe, Ron Rivers, Bruce Monke, Tim Miller and particularly the leadership of Lyle Klostermeyer as Committee Chairman. The typing assistance of our secretarial staff is greatly appreciated. G76-324 Limiting Feed Intake With Salt, T.D. Rich, Steve Armbruster, D.R. Gill Jan 1976

G76-324 Limiting Feed Intake With Salt, T.D. Rich, Steve Armbruster, D.R. Gill

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Cattlemen are aware of the impact high cost labor has on profit; thus, management procedures which reduce labor requirements are important. One management tool frequently used is regulating feed intake with salt.

In addition, self-feeding supplements tend to allow timid, slow-eating cows to get their share and it is an easy method of providing Vitamin A, phosphorus and other feed additives. However, there are disadvantages to feeding salt-concentrate mixes. Salt is not a precise regulator of intake since certain individuals will tolerate more salt than others and abundant water is essential.

Daily salt requirement for mature cattle is less than …

G76-321 Use Of Energy Values In Ration Formulation, Paul Q. Guyer Jan 1976

G76-321 Use Of Energy Values In Ration Formulation, Paul Q. Guyer

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide contains information on the use of high energy values in ration formulation.

Ruminants digest feedstuffs primarily by fermentation in the rumen. This allows ruminant animals to use both roughages and grains as sources of carbohydrates for energy. Part of the carbohydrates pass through the rumen and are digested in the abomasum and small intestine. Most carbohydrates in feeds are converted to either acetic, propionic or butyric acid by rumen bacteria and protozoa. These short chain fatty acids are then absorbed through the rumen wall into the blood stream and eventually are used for energy in body tissue.

Curriculum Development Project In Health Education For Lyle School District No. 406; Scope And Sequence For Kindergarten Through Twelfth Grade And Curriculum Guide For Ninth Grade Health, James A. Titus

All Graduate Projects

Small school districts rarely have curriculum direction, let alone curriculum guides. This writer has often overheard staff members exclaim, "It would help so much if I knew what I am supposed to teach," or "It would be nice if there was some planned progression that students were exposed to." Small school districts usually cannot afford the luxury of specialized curriculum staff working on curriculum projects.

This writer, along with two other staff members was fortunate to attend a health education workshop sponsored by ESD No. 112 in the fall of 1974. A process of curriculum development for health education was …

A Parent Education Program Designed For Reinforcement Of Selected Reading Skills For Primary Level Students, Naomi Roberson

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In this paper, it is the purpose of the author to develop a parent education program to reinforce selected primary level reading skills in primary students through student-parent activities in the home, school, and community.

Decision-Making: A Model For Optimization Of Input-Output Relationships In Urban Compensatory Education Programs., William G. Webster Sr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The problem of this study was to develop a model for (1) statistical analysis of arrays of input in urban Compensatory Education programs, and (2) prediction of optimum arrays of such input as an adjunct to decision-making in future program formulation. The ultimate purposes of the research engaged in were: (1) improvement of administrative and curricular strategies in urban education by elimination of effort-duplication and expenditure-duplication; and (2) development of a statistical device with applicability to both decision-oriented and conclusion-oriented research for ongoing program improvement.

Energy Expenditure Of Grade Four School Children In Western Australia, T. W. Odgers, S. C. Langelaan, J. Henzell, C. Chapman Jan 1976

Energy Expenditure Of Grade Four School Children In Western Australia, T. W. Odgers, S. C. Langelaan, J. Henzell, C. Chapman

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

A composite team from the Public Health Service, the West Australian Institute of Technology, and the Graylands Teachers College conducted surveys on grade 7 children in 1974, and grade 4 children in 1975. The intention of the surveys was to find some relationship between the energy expenditure and the energy intake of each age group. As there is little information concerning the activity patterns of West Australian children the findings of these surveys would serve as a basis for more detailed reports into the physical fitness, activity and dietary balance of children in today's changing society. The study reported below …

Studies Of Handicapped Students: Volume 1: Whom Do Teachers Identify As Handicapped, Patricia Craig, Norman Mceachron

Faculty Publications

This volume reports the first of two studies conducted by the Educational Policy Research Center (EPRC) of SRI for the Assistant Secretary for Education (ASE) on the handicapped school population. The volume presents data on patterns of socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of teacher-identified handicapped students. The purpose of the analysis was to determine whether significant differences in rates of identification of handicapping conditions are associated with family income, race, population size of place of residence, or geographic location. This study briefly reviews past studies; explores a new set of data to determine its usefulness in determining characteristics of the teacher-identified …
