Nutritional Adequacy Of The Diets Of Pregnant Cheyenne River Sioux, Kathy M. Dirks
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A nutrition survey was conducted in which the diets of 79 pregnant Sioux Indian women living on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota were evaluated. A 24-hour recall was used and background information was collected by the researcher at Public Health Service prenatal clinics. The dietary intakes were evaluated according to Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). Diets were considered to be good if they provided all nutrients (protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and ascorbic acid) and energy at or above recommended levels, and poor if they provided one or more nutrients below two-thirds the RDA. In accordance …

Dietary Intake And Influence Of Nutrition Education For Selected Elderly In The Congregate Meals Program, Grace E. Anderson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Nationally, the elderly know fewer facts about nutrition as compared to younger people (41). Senior citizens have relatively poor diets and many are at nutritional risk. The Congregate Meals Program (CMP) provides one low-cost meal a day, five days a week for participants over 60 years of age and their spouses. The meal is to provide one-third of the RDA for the elderly. Based on these generalities, the questions investigated in three eastern South Dakota nutrition sites, with this research are: 1) What is the contribution of the CMP in the total dietary pattern of participants as recorded on a …

A Curriculum Unit To Provide Enrichment Activities For Talented Students In Biology, Mary Angela Gibson Morrissey
A Curriculum Unit To Provide Enrichment Activities For Talented Students In Biology, Mary Angela Gibson Morrissey
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
It is suggested in this paper that Mastery Learning Units can be successful in encouraging the talented students to excel in their interests and capabilities. The intent of this paper is to show how enrichment activities and centers can be easily implemented in the biology curriculum by the use of Mastery Learning Units. In so doing, only one mastery unit is included for the purpose of demonstration. It is suggested that teachers write the units that they will be using for their students. This would allow their units to fit their own particular objectives, as well as the needs and …

Milingimbi Aboriginal Learning Contexts, Stephen George Harris
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The main purpose of this study is to provide information for teachers of Australian Aboriginal children about how learning is achieved 'n a fairly traditionally oriented Aboriginal society. The main stimulus for this study was the recognition that bilingual education is only one aspect of bicultural education, and that on its own vernacular literacy does not sufficiently capitalize on culturally conditioned strengths and expectations about learning processes. The research as necessary for several reasons: no detailed study of traditional Aboriginal learning methods has ever been conducted and most whit I Australians, including those teaching Aboriginal children, are not familiar with …
