A Study Of Hemispheric Synergism As An Applied Theoretical Construct To Determine The Effects Of Contrasting Educational Interventions On Children's Learning Styles, Dale W. Vigil

Dissertations

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to determine if there were appropriate methodological strategies supported by the left-brain/right-brain theoretical construct that significantly affect the learning styles of first grade pupils.

Procedure

Two first grade classrooms in the Adams County School District No. 50, Westminster, Colorado, were identified for this study. Because the study was initiated after the beginning of the year, it was virtually and logistically impossible to randomize subjects. Therefore, intact classes were differentiated as experimental and control groups on the basis of ten criteria.

Thirty-seven first grade pupils were the subjects in this study. Eighteen pupils were …

An Analysis Of Selected Psycholinguistic Instructional Aids For The Remediation Of Learning Deficiencies Among Early Elementary Children, Janice S. Williams

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problem was to determine whether selected psycholinguistic instructional aids were effective in remediating learning deficiencies among early elementary children (grades 1-3). Literature was reviewed to substantiate a need for the use of psycholinguistic instructional aids for remediation of learning deficiencies among early elementary children. Research surveyed included auditory perception skills, language skills, motor skills, and visual perception skills. Data were collected from test groups of students in grade levels one, two, and three. A stratified random sampling technique yielded a sample of thirty-six students, eighteen males and eighteen females. Each of the three grade level groups in the sample …

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Growing up in a family with a school-aged brother and sister and with parents who are teachers usually means that a younger child will be exposed to a wide variety of books and various reading materials. This was true for our five-year-old son, Billy.

Mainstreaming And The Classroom Teacher: A Practical Approach, Carolyn N. Hedley Apr 1981

Mainstreaming And The Classroom Teacher: A Practical Approach, Carolyn N. Hedley

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Classroom teachers have always had exceptional students in regular classrooms; many of these children could not be placed due to overcrowding of special education classes. Some were undiagnosed and unrecognized in terms of specific disability. The parents of others would not allow separation from regular learning settings. Often these handicapped learners in normative educational settings were relegated to marginal roles and ignored. Special learners were sometimes the focus of annoyance of teachers and classmates, who did not understand their disability and could not effectively aid special learning. Much of the time, handicapped children were successfully taught by the ingenious teacher, …

Help Them To Speak, Write, And Listen--They'll Be Better Readers, Linda Jean Lehnert

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

While observing beginning readers in both American and British schools, I have noted that the better readers also appear to be the better speakers, while the child having difficulty with reading also tends to be less verbal and less explicit in oral language activities. This observation sparked my interest in the role of oral language in the reading process.

Sekitar Tentang Penggunaan Laboratorium Bahasa, M. Sudja’I Drs.

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

This article explores the use of language laboratories as an educational technology tool that plays a crucial role in language teaching. Although language laboratories are often regarded as valuable facilities, in practice their pedagogical and technical implications are frequently overlooked after installation. Common issues include a lack of trained technicians, poor equipment maintenance, and the mismatch between laboratory usage and the actual goals of language learning. As a result, many laboratories fail to function optimally and eventually fall into disuse. This paper aims to outline the background, development, and future prospects of language laboratory utilization. It also emphasizes the importance …

Aspek Komunikasi Dalam Pengajaran Bahasa, Setyadi S. Drs.

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

This article discusses the communicative aspects of foreign language teaching, particularly English, by tracing the development of teaching methods and theories alongside advances in linguistics. The early stage was characterized by the traditional grammar-translation approach, later shifting to structural methods such as the audio-lingual approach, and eventually transforming into generative and cognitive perspectives. The article also highlights teaching practices around the 1960s, which emphasized pattern practice to master grammatical structures through repetition and error correction. These paradigm shifts illustrate the transition from passive learning to viewing language as a tool for active communication. Thus, the article underscores that language teaching …

Sebutir Pemahaman Teoritis Untuk Apresiasi, Mukhsin Ahmadi Drs.

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

This paper discusses the theoretical understanding of tone in literary works, with a particular focus on Herman Melville’s novel Moby Dick. Drawing on E.M. Forster’s framework, especially the concept of prophetic song, the author highlights how tone in literature can reflect the moral condition of humanity and its struggle with nature. Tone is understood not merely as a form of entertainment but as a means of expressing profound universal values. By comparing Forster’s ideas with other literary works, this paper emphasizes the importance of literary appreciation through the recognition and understanding of tone.

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

This article examines the various types of doctoral education across different countries and the diverse meanings attached to the doctoral degree. Like other academic titles, the doctoral degree has evolved throughout the 20th century and is not confined to medicine, but also extends to other fields, including languages. The paper highlights the distinctions between professional and non-professional doctorates, as well as the differences in doctoral education systems internationally, with particular emphasis on the United States and Europe. In the U.S., doctoral research tends to be more structured, while in other countries, such as Denmark, the systems vary significantly. These differences …
