Australian students terminating their secondary education with completion of Form Four provided the major stimulus during the last decade for new curriculum developments in an organized study of man. To provide these fifteen-year old pupils with the necessary exposure to life for social adjustment underscored the debate between many social scientists and history teachers on the ability of their respective subject's focus.

Ella Deloria, a Dakota born on the Yankton Reservation in 1888, was a teacher, speaker, author, and researcher in linguistics and anthropology. One purpose. of this study ·was to present a description of her family background, education, and career. Most of this information was gathered by interviews with her relatives, friends, former students, and professional acquaintances. A second.purpose was to analyze her writings on the language and culture of the Dakota people and to determine her contributions to existing publications by others.

The basic approach of this study was the consideration of printed material as one of the independent variables that plays a role in the school learning situation. Its basic purpose was to analyze the content of history textbooks currently used in the fourth grade of Colombian secondary schools. As a part of the content of this study the objectives of the evaluative material included in those books were also analyzed.

Francis Wayland Parker : An Historical Study Of The Influences On His Philosophy Of Education As It Relates To Language Arts, Gregory S. Johnson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Francis Wayland Parker was one of the earliest American educators of national prominence to advocate what has come to be known today as progressive education. He was in total support of the common school concept, helped from the earliest, formal child study association in America, promoted the institution of kindergartens, and stressed the need for a child-centered, correlated curriculum organized around the natural and physical sciences. Through his work in the Quincy, Massachusetts, public schools and at the Cook County (Chicago) Normal School, Parker also made strong contributions to early language arts/reading instruction and methodology.
