Are You Educated?, H. Earl Rath Jan 1932

Are You Educated?, H. Earl Rath

Science Bulletin

A few months ago we tried to set up a sort of standard by which a per- son might judge as to whether or not he could satisfy the demands of ordinary health. It shall be the purpose of this article to set up a standard by which an individual might judge of the adequacy of his or her health knowledge. This discussion is based largely on the "Ten Commandments" by Dr. Livingstone Farr -and, given in an address before the American Public Health Association, and printed in College Text books of Hygiene by Smiley and Gould. Many will probably …

Rb32-266 Cooling Milk On Nebraska Farms, P.A. Downs, E.B. Lewis

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

The desire of Nebraska people to continue the improvement of living conditions and to secure more healthful foods has been responsible for many changes in methods of caring for milk. One of the important factors in keeping milk sweet and of good quality is the process of cooling and keeping it cool until used. Three of these processes are as follows: placing containers of warm milk in any quantity of still water or still air at temperatures ranging from freezing to within a few degrees of the temperature of the milk, placing the containers in such positions that air or …

The Apology Of A Pedagogue: Editorial Jan 1932

The Apology Of A Pedagogue: Editorial

Science Bulletin

"The world's stock of knowledge is seldom augmented by pedagogues." H. L. Mencken.

With all due respect to the author of the above and the several brilliant things he has written, bosh! The sentence makes interesting reading, and doubtless returned the writer several cents per word, besides giving his doting henchmen many chuckles at the expense of the puerile pedagogue. But mere pertness of expression connotes neither truth nor profundity, and had the writer of the above sentence set about deliberately to formulate a fundamental untruth, he could not have fashioned one whose Munchausen quality was more obtrusively obvious.

The Parent Teacher Association As A Binding Tie Between Home And School, Clara Therese Manthey Jan 1932

The Parent Teacher Association As A Binding Tie Between Home And School, Clara Therese Manthey

Bachelors’ Theses

In writing this thesis I have attempted to describe the organization and work of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers in all its branches; to cull from various sources the essentials which should be the possession of every officer, committee chairman, or committee member in every office, committee chairman, or committee member in every association; and to evaluate the efforts of this group which, starting with the enlightenment of mothers as to the value of kindergarten work for their little children, now considers all child welfare projects as its fielk.

Fundamental Needs Of The Preschool Child, Kathryn Mccabe Jacks Jan 1932

Fundamental Needs Of The Preschool Child, Kathryn Mccabe Jacks

Bachelors’ Theses

The greatest gift life can yield is its own propagation. The greatest loss one can sustain is the deprivation of that life. These two facts have prompted me to make the present study . I have lost my -precious possession - a beautiful little girl. My loss has convinced me that nothing should be left undone in the promotion of the welfare of the child. A better understanding of the preschool child will enable us to guide him so that he may attain the greatest good at all times. To discover the basic needs of the child is, therefore, the …

Art Appreciation As Applied To Art In Everyday Life Suitable For Ninth Year Pupils, Lottiellen Johnson Jan 1932

Art Appreciation As Applied To Art In Everyday Life Suitable For Ninth Year Pupils, Lottiellen Johnson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The ability to see the beauty that is all around us in the world is a matter of training. We call this ability appreciation. It is an attitude of mind that brings much joy to the possessor.

Appreciation must be definitely taught if the children are to no- quire such an attitude of mind, which is not an accidental by-product of any and all art instruction, as many art teachers in the past have considered it, but is the outcome of a definite teaching method. It is possible to confine one's teaching to the presentation of facts, making the procedure …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Each year shows an Increased enrollment in the universities and colleges of California. The compulsory education law has served to keep more students in high school a longer time and upon graduation many of these pupils desire to attend an institution of higher learning. This fact, together with the influx of people into California from all parts of the United States and abroad to make their homes, has added materially to the numbers of prospective college students.

It has been the policy of the colleges and universities in the State of California to admit graduates from accredited high schools without …
