All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
Is there any question pertaining to child development that is as much discussed today as the subject of improving the child's personality? As parents and teachers talk over their every day problems it is evident that they are concerned principally with the personal traits of their charges. While the training of the intellect is important, it is secondary to the training of personality.

The Nature, Need And Value Of School Supervision, Mary Zenobia Zygowicz
The Nature, Need And Value Of School Supervision, Mary Zenobia Zygowicz
Bachelors’ Theses
Supervision in recent years has gained a considerable degree of importance in education; but though its need has been recognized, its value and effectiveness have been questioned. Since it has become one of the essential factors in the progress of education, it deserves to be studied and to be understood. The writer's endeavor in this work is to: 1. Present the various explanations of supervision as given by different educators and exponents of supervision. 2. Trace summarily the historical development of supervision. 3. Point out the factors which render supervision necessary in education. 4. Describe the methods used in the …
The Child In The Modern Kindergarten, Helen June Whalen
The Child In The Modern Kindergarten, Helen June Whalen
Bachelors’ Theses
Provision for children four and five years of age is coming to be recognized as an essential part of our scheme of education. Scientific investigation has shown that many of the undesirable traits in adult life are due to the lack of early training in childhood. The first year of the child's school life is a very important one. It is at this time that boys and girls leave the limited environment of their home for the first time. During their stay in kindergarten they must learn to adapt themselves to a larger group, to be guided by the teacher …

The Care Of The Deaf In Wisconsin, Howard H. Tilg
The Care Of The Deaf In Wisconsin, Howard H. Tilg
Bachelors’ Theses
In ancient times a deaf child was considered useless and, at best, was barely suffered to live. Rome was the first nation to recognize the legal rights of a deaf person, but it was the universal sentiment that he was wholly incapable of instruction.

The Open Air Schools, Eleanore A. Madden
The Open Air Schools, Eleanore A. Madden
Bachelors’ Theses
Open Air Schools for the treatment of delicate children are a product of the twentieth century. They are an off shoot of the sanitorium method of caring for tuberculosis patients. Thirty years ago fresh air was considered the most important factor in the treatment of tuberculosis and though rest and food were also essential factors in such treatment, there seemed to be some special attraction about fresh air which relegated the matter-of-fact procedures of eating and sleeping to positions of less prominence. Perhaps this was a natural reaction from the treatment in vogue before the days of sanitoria, when closed …
Education In American Penal Institutions, Dolores Driscoll Britz
Education In American Penal Institutions, Dolores Driscoll Britz
Bachelors’ Theses
The humanizing of penal incarceration has during the present century strode forward in an ever increasing upward trend. We no longer see our prisons merely as instruments of an avenging justice, but rather as a hospital instituted to attend the social ills and maladjustments of the individual. Coupled with and supplemented by this socializing process, has come a new emphasis on the importance of education in the penal institution. It is with this aspect of penology that the thesis is concerned.
Due to the youth of the subject, since education in prisons is still in its childhood, there is a …
