50 Years Of Research At The North Platte Experiment Station, W. W. Burr, J. C. Adams

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

The North Platte Experiment was established fifty years ago. So many changes have occurred since then that few people remember why research in dry land agriculture was started in Nebraska and other Great Plains states. In order to get a proper perspective, it may be well to consider some early history.

Six Semester Courses In Graphic Arts, Glen D. Moerdyk

Masters Theses

Chapter 1

Introduction

A Six Semester Course in the Graphic is the result of felt needs on the part of the author as a result of his three years of teaching in the area and three previous years of practical experience. These needs are to illuminate or minimize the monotonous routine of compose, proof, and distribute foundry type in the traditional printing course; to get a tangible, usable, finished project in the hands of students; to put more practical and new learning experiences into the curriculum to meet the demands for those wishing more work in the area; and to …

A Study To Determine The Content Of An Industrial Arts Program In The Elementary Schools Of Box Elder County, Charles M. Hawkes May 1954

A Study To Determine The Content Of An Industrial Arts Program In The Elementary Schools Of Box Elder County, Charles M. Hawkes

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The child is the reason for the school. He is the one for whom learning experiences are provided. Our understanding of the child as a growing individual and as a learner, his personality and his purposes and interests, supply the foundation for developing an effective educational program.

No longer do we look at the education program as a sole preparation for some future life. Instead it has now become more a process whereby we make the most of present living in order that we might live a more full and rich life each day. Education is something that goes on …

A Study Of Administrative Policies And Procedures For Girls' Physical Education In Selected Secondary Schools Of Southern Utah, Ann L. Lamb May 1954

A Study Of Administrative Policies And Procedures For Girls' Physical Education In Selected Secondary Schools Of Southern Utah, Ann L. Lamb

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Each person in education from the Commissioner of Education down to the classroom teacher is concerned with administration. Each has administrative duties. The way these duties are conducted and carried out will have a direct influence on the outcome of any physical education program and each child within this program.

Through the Tenth Amendment responsibility for the administration of education has been turned over to the various states. Most of the states through their constitutions place the responsibility upon the legislature to provide for organization and maintenance of public school systems. This body then draws up the statutory laws and …

Determining The Extent, In Terms Of Behavior Growth To Which Industrial Arts Teachers In Utah Are Achieving The Objectives Of Industrial Arts, A. Kent Randall May 1954

Determining The Extent, In Terms Of Behavior Growth To Which Industrial Arts Teachers In Utah Are Achieving The Objectives Of Industrial Arts, A. Kent Randall

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

It is evident that, if industrial arts teachers have subscribed to a set of objectives to guide or give direction to their teaching program, they should be used. It is not sufficient to formulate the aims then lay them aside to collect dust. Rather these aims or objectives should be used effectively as a learning guide. Upon these objectives the teacher should build his whole program.

It has been said that objectives really mean behavioral growth on the part of the students. If such is the case, the objectives must be translated into a desired behavior pattern outcome. The student's …

Opinions Of Secondary School Principals In Regard To The Intramural Activities Program In High Schools Of Utah, Thair G. Allen May 1954

Opinions Of Secondary School Principals In Regard To The Intramural Activities Program In High Schools Of Utah, Thair G. Allen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Intramural activity programs, as employed in the modern American high school, represent a very recent and fast growing development. In early colonial days youth was necessarily absorbed in helping to build a new nation out of the wilderness. Clearing forests, building homes, and handling heavy chores were some of the tasks of which youths were an important part. They had little leisure time for play. In the modern age of today, with its frontiers established, students who are attending high school have ample leisure time for play. The direction of this play into wholesome avenues is the problem that faces …

A Determination Of Variability Of Teaching Assignments In The Secondary Schools Of Utah Together With Implications For Teacher Education Curricula, June Butler Willhite May 1954

A Determination Of Variability Of Teaching Assignments In The Secondary Schools Of Utah Together With Implications For Teacher Education Curricula, June Butler Willhite

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

It is usually recognized that, in the broad sense, our public schools are maintained for the instruction of children and youth. Moreover, there appear to be three important factors which bear directly upon the nature of this instruction: (1) the individuals who enter the teaching profession, the kinds of people they are, their physical, emotional and mental characteristics or capacities; (2) the kind of education these potential educators receive in preparation for their professional work; and, (3) the actual teaching assignment the individual receives in the particular school where he is employed. Commonly, these three matters are referred to as …

A Study Of Recommended School Plant Planning Procedures Together With An Evaluation Of The Extent To Which They Are Being Utilized In Selected Utah School Districts, Spencer Wyatt May 1954

A Study Of Recommended School Plant Planning Procedures Together With An Evaluation Of The Extent To Which They Are Being Utilized In Selected Utah School Districts, Spencer Wyatt

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

One of the great problems facing the public schools of America today is that of providing adequate school facilities. The immediate need for new buildings is overwhelming. Contributing factors to the need for expanded school plant facilities can be classified, both as a result of a backlog of school building needs over a period of several decades, and because of greatly increased enrollments. A publication of the United States Office of Education summarized a discussion of these factors as follows:

The public schools entered the 1950 decade with a backlog of need for more than 250,000 classrooms and faced anticipated …

A Study Of Student Drop-Outs At The South Cache High School 1948 - 53, Rosslyn M. Eppich

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Since the 16th century, educators have endeavored to find a way to teach the masses of young people the fundamentals necessary for a good life. Protestant reformers “…advocated that education should be universal, compulsory, free…”

The Place Of The General Shop In The Industrial Arts Curriculum In The Secondary Schools Of Utah, Max E. Mckinnon May 1954

The Place Of The General Shop In The Industrial Arts Curriculum In The Secondary Schools Of Utah, Max E. Mckinnon

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The primary purpose of education is to develop happy and successful citizens. Industrial arts, being a phase of general education, should in every way possible contribute toward achieving this primary purpose. Because of the rapidly changing methods of industrial production and the increasing areas of industry, it is therefore necessary, that to keep abreast of this industrial advancement, industrial education must employ every possible means to justifiably incorporate these new industrial methods and products into the industrial education program.

It is the intention of the writer that this study will bring forth evidence of the practical usability of the general …

A Study Of Elementary Physical Education At The Whittier School, Logan, Utah, Phyllis C. Jacobson May 1954

A Study Of Elementary Physical Education At The Whittier School, Logan, Utah, Phyllis C. Jacobson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Since the First World War, there has been an increased recognition for the need of physical education in the elementary school. Although educators recognize and agree on the need, they are not in agreement as to how to best achieve this need. Some educators believe that physical education should be taught as a specialized subject. Through this means, instruction is provided by a specialist who is trained in physical education. Some educators believe that physical education should be integrated with every other phase of the school program and taught by the classroom teacher. There are other educators who believe that …

The Financing And Budgeting Of Athletics In The Intermountian Collegiate Athletic Conference For School Year 1951-1952, James Jardine Williams

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Modern educational administration demands that all departments be conducted on a business-like basis. Because of the amount of money taken in and spent, the financial management of his department is one of the most important duties of the director of athletics. Lack of knowledge or ability in this area may well handicap the whole program.
