Non-Delinquency Among American-Chinese Youth : A Pilot Study, Conrad Foo Mar

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It was the purpose of this study: (1) to examine the obstacles in research in the uniquely difficult area of sampling of the American-Chinese population and (2) to find out what descriptive approaches do not produce resistance, hopefully to suggest future research in this area and (3) to obtain historical and descriptive data which might offer, from a sample of both delinquent and non-delinquent American-Chinese youth, some clues to the rehabilitation of youthful offenders. Specifically, this was basically an attempt to obtain an available sample of both delinquent and non-delinquent American-Chinese youth for the purpose of identifying some of the …

Reporting Pupil Progress Of Mentally Retarded Children In The San Pablo School District, William Brent Adams Jan 1964

Reporting Pupil Progress Of Mentally Retarded Children In The San Pablo School District, William Brent Adams

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

While much has been done in California to provide adequate facilities and programs to educate and train the child who is mentally retarded, very little has been done to assure adequate reporting of the child's progress: in the program. This assumption has been reinforced through discussion of this problem with many persons who are active in programs for the mentally retarded in California.

It must be further assumed that an adequate method of evaluating and reporting pupil progress should be an inherent part of any purposeful educational program.

The problem was to determine what methods should be used to report …

Elementary Student Teacher Responses To Selected Interest And Attitude Inventories, Myron Brandham Eckhardt

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

One of the most elusive problems in the education profession continues to be the determination of sound reliable means of recruitment and selection of teacher candidates. The present report is of a study designed to explore this general area as it pertains to elementary teacher education at the University of the Pacific.

This investigation was planned to contribute toward the following general purposes:

  1. To avoid waste of student and faculty time and effort by early identification of students whose attitudes and interests are not congruent with those of successful teachers.
  2. To be able to furnish accurate descriptive information for counseling …

Differences In Class Rank Between Boys And Girls In Graduating Classes Of Iowa Public Secondary Schools, Dave John Cook Jan 1964

Differences In Class Rank Between Boys And Girls In Graduating Classes Of Iowa Public Secondary Schools, Dave John Cook

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

For many years, educators have noted that girls seem to attain higher class rank than boys while attending secondary schools. It appears that this idea has been accepted a priori and that little research effort has been put forth to determine the magnitude of the differences which exist. It is a matter of conjecture at the present time as to how great the differences must be before they will be considered to be serious problems.

It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine whether significant differences existed between the class standing of boys and the class standing of …
