Language Training For Missionaries, Laurence Mcpherson Farr Jan 1951

Language Training For Missionaries, Laurence Mcpherson Farr

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Every foreign missionary is confronted with one basic task. Without its successful accomplishment his work as a missionary will fail. It is the task of learning the language of the people among whom he is working. However laudable his motives may be, however great his consecration, and however capable he may be in many tasks, if he fails to gain the ability to understand readily speech addressed to him or to communicate his own thoughts intelligibly and accurately to them, he is working behind a closed door — a door which he failed to unlock,

It is the purpose of …

Evolution Of The State Board Of Education, Ivan Davis

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The specific problem of this report is to trace the growth of the State Board of Education in Kansas. The State Board of Education will be referred to hereafter as the State Board. This board has had its ups and downs but the Constitution of the state clearly placed the responsibility for the creation of a state system of public instruction upon the legislature. "The legislature shall encourage the promotion of intellectual, moral, scientific and agricultural improvement, by establishing a uniform system of common schools, and schools of a higher grade, embracing normal, preparatory, collegiate and university departments." Therefore the …

Comparative Effectiveness Of Elementary School Achievement In English Speaking Countries, Arthur R. Self

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The general problem of this study was to determine the relative effectiveness or general progress of instruction of school children in English speaking countries of the world as compared with the progress in certain Kansas schools. Teachers and headmasters in the foreign countries were careful to mention the fact that many processes of learning are different in their country than it is in the United States. Such spelling words as program (programme), center (centre), and labor (labour) could not be used, and problems dealing in dollars and cents were not used.
