The Use Of Art Activities In The Later Elementary Social Studies Program, Maryellen Harsha
The Use Of Art Activities In The Later Elementary Social Studies Program, Maryellen Harsha
Masters Theses
Chapter I
The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
It has been shown that creative activities can implement a child's understanding of history and geography and that children actually learn by recreating dramatic situations in their own dramatic terms. Furthermore, integration of the arts into other subject-matter areas furthers a child's academic receptivity, understanding, and absorption.1 Since this is true, what more vivid type of learning could take place in the area of social studies than actual performance through creativity? If a child, through such activity can lose himself momentarily by means of identification with persons and situations being studied, …

A Survey Of Religion In Education In The Public Schools Of Iowa: Practices And Legal Regulations, William Thomas Jochumsen
A Survey Of Religion In Education In The Public Schools Of Iowa: Practices And Legal Regulations, William Thomas Jochumsen
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Since World War II, there has been a new surge of interest on the part of American citizens concerning religion in education in the public schools. The numerous books published on this subject; the frequency with which articles concerning the pros and cons appeared in newspapers and periodicals; the extensive utilization of panel and group discussions on the subject among the clergy, educators, and parents; and the recent court rulings will all substantiate this statement. It is necessary that research be conducted in order to discover present practices and to lessen the great confusion that now exists. With this information, …

Some Applications Of Selected Linguistic Principles To The Teaching Of Gregg Shorthand, Ruth S. Taliaferro
Some Applications Of Selected Linguistic Principles To The Teaching Of Gregg Shorthand, Ruth S. Taliaferro
Theses & Honors Papers
One leading authority in the business education field estimates that about one-half of the 800,000 students who enroll in Gregg shorthand each year either drop out or never attain job proficiency. Figures show that in the State of Virginia the enrollment in beginning shorthand is two to three times as high as in the important second year. Why should there be so many drop-outs? Why should there be so many who do not attain job proficiency?
There is a possibility that the whole problem revolves around the question of insight. Gregg shorthand is based on linguistic principles which become an …

Keys To Professional Information For Teachers, Roy C. Bryan
Keys To Professional Information For Teachers, Roy C. Bryan
Faculty Contributions (1950-1981)
One is well aware that graduate students, in the earlier days of their advanced study, tend to be wasteful of their time and effort. Much of this waste is caused by the fact that they have little knowledge of the library keys and indexes that will aid them in locating references quickly and assembling bibliographies that are pertinent to their papers and projects.
This publication is designed to provide that much n needed assistance. The materials contained herein, admittedly, do not include every key and index that is now available. However, the School of Graduate Studies is convinced that those …

A Comparison Of Academic Achievement Between Pupils Of Selected Small Elementary Schools And Large Elementary Schools In Box Elder County, Robert Morgan
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Constitution of the United States brought a “new look” throughout the western world toward the position the American school was to play in the protection of the cherished and newly won freedoms. Congressional action, backed by majority public opinion, legally bound the responsible power of school maintenance and operation over to the state and local governments. It was believed that the first line of defense for the protection of democracy lay in the foundation of good schools, and their activities could be best augmented by the strong support of the family community life cooperatively working for the welfare of …
