Generally, the research in the area attempts to determine the relation between changes in the stimulus and changes in the measures of approach behavior in the subject (s). In this research, approach behavior is apparently unrelated to organic need conditions. The experiments presented in this paper were designed to determine a preschool child's stimulus preference as he entered the experimental setting, and whether that preference could …

Learning To Swim, Richard R. Williams Jan 1971

Learning To Swim, Richard R. Williams

Perspectives (1969-1979)

For, regardless of the current flurry of excitement concerning new directions in teaching and learning, I feel that we are still adrift and perilously off course when it comes to assessing what is in our best interest. Almost everyone nowadays is talking about educational reforms and there is a good deal of agreement that change must be in the direction of fostering more humanistic, life-enhancing processes. More often than not, however, what we term bold new ventures into self-discovery, enhancement of growth, or whatever phrase suits our taste, are actually old and quite stale wines in new wineskins. An old …

Art Institute of Boston (AIB) Course Catalogs

The Art Institute of Boston maintains, and always has maintained throughout the course of its long history, that the artist holds a unique position of responsibility in his society. The Use Of Selected Films And Film Discussions In Modifying Social Distance In Elementary School Children, Stanton C. Baker

All Master's Theses

When conflicts involving interpersonal relationships arise within the school setting, it would appear appropriate to attempt to cope with these conflicts within the framework of the school; particularly the classroom. Many methods of modifying behavior through group procedures have been attempted with varying degrees of success. It was the purpose of this study to investigate the effectiveness of one such method; a fiIm-discussion technique. This program was developed to modify behaviors, attitudes and/or perceptions which interfere with the development of constructive interpersonal relationships within an elementary classroom.

Mark Twain's Study Of The Effects Of Slavery And Its Relationship To Training, Sharon Faye Nielson Jan 1971

Mark Twain's Study Of The Effects Of Slavery And Its Relationship To Training, Sharon Faye Nielson

All Master's Theses

This paper presents a study of Mark Twain's treatment of slavery, especially in relation to his theory of training. In his novels Huckleberry Finn, Puddn'head Wilson, The Prince and the Pauper, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court Twain portrays the effects of slavery and training on the personality of the slave and the slaveholder. Twain deals largely with the psychological effects of slavery, which tend to dehumanize both slave and slaveholder, deeply and permanently marking their personalities.

How We Raise Paramecium, Easily, In Large Numbers, Eugene C. Bovee, Sandra C. Thompson, Mercedes L. Acuña

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

We use more Paramecium spp. in our Physiological Protozoology course at the University of Kansas than any other cells, and use them in great numbers each week, so that we wish to avoid the cost of buying them commercially. Therefore, we raise our own cultures. For over twenty years the senior author has used the easy method described here to raise large numbers of Paramecium aurelia, P. cauclatum, or P. multimicronucleatum, with consistent success.

Piaget's Theory As The Basis For The Assessment Of Reading Disability Andsuggested Remediation Through An Adapted Science Curriculum, Vivian Helen Mcprouty Jan 1971

Piaget's Theory As The Basis For The Assessment Of Reading Disability Andsuggested Remediation Through An Adapted Science Curriculum, Vivian Helen Mcprouty

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Piaget's theory suggests that the development of intelligence is related to an ability to perform logical operations. For the child between 7 and 11 years of age, seriation and classification are operational forms of behavior originating in earlier actions. Since seriation and classification are important to the syntax and semantics of language) failure to develop fully operational seriation and classification abilities may result in certain deficits in the child's reading ability. If so, the science curriculum may be useful in facilitating the cognitive growth necessary to success in reading. Recommendations for adapting the science program for remediation conclude the study.

Two Program Processors For The Preparation Of Instructional Materials In Chemistry, Lloyd V. Gayman Jan 1971

Two Program Processors For The Preparation Of Instructional Materials In Chemistry, Lloyd V. Gayman

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The use of inductive or inquiry techniques in the teaching of science has been emphasized. A possible technological aid to the inquiry process is the electronic computer. A review of the literature in this area led to the development of two program processors, one to produce simulated experiments, the other to generate problems for student use.

The first processor, SIM/G, can be used to produce tables or charts. Five sample programs were prepared to illustrate the use of the SIM/G processor. Directions for use of the processor have been given. Documentation has included both a complete verbal explanation and a …
