Navajo Verb Prefix Phonology, James M. Kari
Navajo Verb Prefix Phonology, James M. Kari
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The structure of the verb prefix system in the Navajo verb is clarified by a thorough generative phonological analysis of the morphophonemic alternations in the prefix complex. The intricate modal prefix alternations are presented in detail. Initially, an important internal boundary in the verb, the disjunct boundary, is demonstrated. The disjunct boundary is central to the formulation of a number of common phonological rules such as ni-absorption and vowel deletion, and it provides the organizing principle for a full structural statement of the mode system. A discussion of several pervasive, non-mode dependent phonological rules precedes the analysis of the verb …
A Cross-Cultural Study Of Conformity In Americans And Chinese., Lily C. Huang
A Cross-Cultural Study Of Conformity In Americans And Chinese., Lily C. Huang
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The present investigation intended to study conformity of Chinese and Americans in several different situations through three independent experiments conducted in Taipei, Taiwan and in Albuquerque, New Mexico, based on the paradigm adapted from imitation studies. From historical and anthropological analyses of Chinese and American cultures, as ·well as from more recent experimental studies, there were reasons to expect Chinese to be more conforming and their behavior more dependent upon environmental influences. Experiment One studied the effects of a model's task specific competence and general status on adult Ss' conformity in a survey-taking field situation. The results showed that Chinese …

The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith
The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
One of the tasks of the adult school administrator is that of planning the program to be offered to the public. Is it well balanced academic and vocational areas; does it satisfy the needs of the home-maker, the student, the apprentice; does it offer something for each to fulfill his educational needs? These and a number of other questions must be answered before an adult school program will satisfy the educational needs of the adult community it is to serve. Damon stated it well when he wrote that: Although adult education is assuming a more important place in the public …

Sculpture For The Secondary Level, Joanne Beckett Peekema
Sculpture For The Secondary Level, Joanne Beckett Peekema
Dissertations and Theses
The goal of this thesis was to illustrate that secondary students, when motivated to express themselves, can effectively apply to their own work those elements of design relevant to sculptural form.
This unit sought, first, to develop in secondary students a knowledge of sculptural techniques for handling terracotta; second, this unit sought to inspire or motivate the secondary students by utilizing a subject of great interest to them, their own images; third, this unit sought to bring together the students' understanding of the material and their motivation for self expression -- to transform their ideas into three-dimensional works of art; …
